Much thinner, in the case of the hand wound (9R31) Spring Drives. These watches are about 10mm and wear thinner, I’d say. Considering the depth of the dial furniture and the length of the power reserve it’s impressively thin. They even do a 44GS model with the 9R31 that’s 10.5mm.
The newest generation automatic movements (9SA5) are thinner than the old ones though. They tend to be sub-12mm watches rather than the 14mm+ that a lot of the older generation of models are. They do actually seem to be making an effort on that front.
Don’t have a ton of pictures yet - it’s not the easiest to photograph either. I swapped it to this saffiano strap earlier (though I am starting to think it might be best on black or navy).
Winding action is interesting. It’s smooth with a quiet click, and quite heavy - there’s a fair bit of spring resistance.
