  • Yippee - from another functional Fox owner

  • Can't catch a Fox... Glad you got it back!

  • Cool, glad you got it sorted out quickly!

  • Total win, glad you got it back, from yet another functional fox owner! Safe riding.

  • Great bike, glad you got it back - keep it safe and more pics please!

  • Thanks guys!

  • Some updates. Bike now looking ridiculous with new deore 1x10 with a 11-46 cassette. Also swapped the chainset for a spa cycles TD2 with 42 narrow wide. Had already cut the chain for a 40t chainring so it's a bit too short now.

The bike is nearly finished. I want to get a larger basket and I'm going to make a bag to go with it. Also looking at new tyres, tempted by gravelkings but the new schwalbe hurricanes are probably a more sensible choice for commuting.

  • Looks excellent. Is the cassette a Shimano one, SunRace or something else?

  • It's Shimano. They released a new deore line a couple of months ago. It's very good value. Cassette was only 40 euro or something

  • Ah I spotted this last year in town! The banana on the saddle made me laugh.

My courier comp is going to end up looking very similar I think. Is the steering stabiliser thing worth it?

  • Haha was that outside Heuston?Banana wasn't there when I came back to the bike after a weekend away and someone had robbed the grips!

Eh I had stabliser thing lying around. It's handy for locking up to a pole to stop the wheel flopping. I'd say it's Worth it

  • Yeah it was! Such a nice looking bike. I've never heard of someone robbing grips before. Pity, they matched nicely.

  • Put on some Nitto albatross bars and I'm loving them, so comfy and help speed up the boat like steering caused by the front rack.
Thinking of getting rid of the basket and making a bigger rack bag as a lock down product. The restrap one is nice but doesn't hold much

Also the put on worst quality bottle cages ever. On the look out for some yellow elites.
    Excuse the sloppy pics

  • Albatross bars are a win I find. Lovely bike.

  • Set up for a cold overnight last weekend. Colour never comes out right in my phone camera

  • Love it. Such a nice looking bike. Did you go down towards Wicklow?

  • Also curious to know...need something to look forward to once this 5km lifts.

  • We'll have to do a muddy fox meet up once I finish my 2 and we're allowed meet people haha

  • Haha yeah, how are yours going

It was actually still Dublin, just off the wicklow way near glencullen

  • Hello!

I've been on the look out for a 27" British touring/ road bike to convert to 700c to allow for larger tyres.
I finally bought an '83 (?) Raleigh Record ace as a Christmas present for myself.

The bike is great nick and the seller has kept it original apart from swapping in a nice set of mavic MA40 700c wheels on campag hubs. They added some nice transparent yellowy cables.
The greeny-gold colour is lovely in person.

Build is is probably going to a bit post-fixiebike lfgss/ riv wannabe paint by numbers. (shiny)

The 531c frame felt lovely on a quick ride before it got dark.
First thing I'll be changing is the cockpit and brakes. Can't really get on with the narrow 38 bars and tiny hoods. I'll throw on some tan wall spesh 30c Roubaix tyres which I have for now and will see how big I can go. Weinmann Brakes seem too brakes flexy to ever be much good.
53/42 rings are away too big for where I live.

    Priorities
Bars: Nitto Noodle 177 (or an open faceplate quill stem which will give more bar options)
    Levers: TRP RRL gummy
    Brakes: tektro R559
tyres: pasela/ gravel king, better recommendation?
    Cranks: Spa cycles td2- 46/33
Saddle: Brookes b17, anyone tried the spa copy?

    Shifting.
I have some shimano DA 9 speed bar end shifters which I'd like to use, which would mean rebuilding the rear wheel, which means I might as well build up a dyno front. Which will also mean I'll have three dyno bikes.
Would like some kind deore rear mech for wider range cassette.
Really the stock build kit of the the Raleigh Royal would have been preferred but the 531c frame is lovely.

I do like the matchingish chromoplastics, but they're pretty narrow. Would like to try some shiny metal nonsense

  • Really nice build.
If you do go the Tektro brake route, do not use the stock pads, put them straight into the bin. Swisssstop blue bxp or whatever they're called are great, koolstop salmon run a very close second.
If you have room for 35mm and mudguards, pirelli cinturato velo are really good (not tan wall though), I also really like paselas, such a good everyday tyre.

  • Which will also mean I'll have three dyno bikes

This can only be a good thing

  • Both great tips thanks!
