• Hello!

I've been on the look out for a 27" British touring/ road bike to convert to 700c to allow for larger tyres.
I finally bought an '83 (?) Raleigh Record ace as a Christmas present for myself.

The bike is great nick and the seller has kept it original apart from swapping in a nice set of mavic MA40 700c wheels on campag hubs. They added some nice transparent yellowy cables.
The greeny-gold colour is lovely in person.

Build is is probably going to a bit post-fixiebike lfgss/ riv wannabe paint by numbers. (shiny)

The 531c frame felt lovely on a quick ride before it got dark.
First thing I'll be changing is the cockpit and brakes. Can't really get on with the narrow 38 bars and tiny hoods. I'll throw on some tan wall spesh 30c Roubaix tyres which I have for now and will see how big I can go. Weinmann Brakes seem too brakes flexy to ever be much good.
53/42 rings are away too big for where I live.

    Priorities
Bars: Nitto Noodle 177 (or an open faceplate quill stem which will give more bar options)
    Levers: TRP RRL gummy
    Brakes: tektro R559
tyres: pasela/ gravel king, better recommendation?
    Cranks: Spa cycles td2- 46/33
Saddle: Brookes b17, anyone tried the spa copy?

    Shifting.
I have some shimano DA 9 speed bar end shifters which I'd like to use, which would mean rebuilding the rear wheel, which means I might as well build up a dyno front. Which will also mean I'll have three dyno bikes.
Would like some kind deore rear mech for wider range cassette.
Really the stock build kit of the the Raleigh Royal would have been preferred but the 531c frame is lovely.

I do like the matchingish chromoplastics, but they're pretty narrow. Would like to try some shiny metal nonsense
