I do wonder if the extreme cold will have damaged roofs and the subsequent rain and wind will result in a bumper crop for roofers.

Reply This. Tonnes of places water gets in and then busts it apart. Water in a hole in a stone can break it apart given a few freeze/thaw cycles, so it will split apart a felted roof in no time. Generally easy to fix so long as access isn't a chore.

This is what I thought about the burst water main up in Belsize Park - it's going to be a nightmare if your basement floods then freezes.
