I don't really like the finish of Spray.Bike
-
• #1980
Ah. My bad.
-
• #1981
yeah, I hear you - never seen one in the flesh though but it's got a texture to it...
-
• #1982
My mate sprayed his carbon road bike with spray.bike and the texture was very off putting. ]
But since then I have read that you can flatten the paint with a super fine sand paper or even news paper and then slap a gloss lacquer over it and it looks smooth and "normal"

Still a very fragile finish. Chips unbelievably easily.

It’s not so bad. Obviously isn’t factory finish but if you prep well, are generous with clear, and let the clear coat cure for a good while before building the bike back up, I wouldn’t exactly describe it as fragile. Saying that, I’ve only done two bikes with it so I’m not really an authority…

My mates road bike has held up fine with no chips in over 3 years!
And he's more break stuff then caution kind of guy lol

For those in the Bristol area, I can recommend ABC in Nailsea, this was 3 weeks and £110. Very happy.

Oh mate that is rad!
-
• #1991
Is there a picture to go with your recommendation...?!

Williams & Oakley Engineering in Radstock are a great option for anyone out Southwest. Excellent value, fast turnaround and good masking. They're plenty proficient with bicycle frames too as they provide finishes for BTR and 18Bikes...

Looks like armourtex is closing for good, fair few things up for sale on their Instagram so check it ot if it's of interest.

• #1996
Not surprising. Last time I went they were asking absurd money for a single colour

Where's current best/cheapest place for powdercoating in vicinity of South London? Plus what's going rate for a frame+forks?
Yes I have been too lazy to read back more than a few pages... someone called Steve? But you need to go through a bike shop that's now closed? -
• #1998
think Mario is still operating? He goes through steve as well
-
• #1999
Didn't know Mario could organise powdercoating - am always happy to go and see him. Any idea what the going rate is?
-
• #2000
call him. Probably not much more than 120 for frame and fork. more if carbon fork
@hobo @motman would either of you consider spray.bike?
