So the goal is to take my remaining £300 ish, a load of elbow grease and some parts bin scavenging and end up with something like this.

I like the sound of this (minus blue tyres). Very much wanting a canti CX project, voodoo looks like a good starting point.

Yeah, I won’t be going with blue tyres lol. Or chrome bar tape for that matter.

I had this frame, the fork suffers a bit from judder, so I'd advise getting a fork mounted cable hanger.

I don’t think I’d recommend the X2 stem for off-road. Mine holds (when torqued perfectly) but have had it move a few times and apparently the two bolt faceplates do crack (probably from overnighting to compensate for slip).

Thanks for the info, I have ordered a fork mounted hanger. The stem will be swapped out too, I don’t like the look of that style. I’ll likely use a Chinese eBay “ultra lite” one as I have used them on x.c bikes loads with no issues.
Keeping with the cheap theme, I have seen China carbon tubs for 170 on eBay
Recommendations for an all round cross tyre would be appreciated.Toying with the idea of a lairy paint job or powder coat, but I’ll see how bad the paint is when the bike arrives.
Provisional plan for everything else is:
Sram gears.
Chinese carbon everywhere else. -

i had one of these for a bit, with a rear carbon triangle. paint is pearl white, which isnt a cheap paint colour, if you can get the logos off it would be good to leave as is

I’ll have to wait until i see it in the flesh but my plan was to build something that was cheap but not necessarily ratty. If I can get the paint looking good I’ll happily keep it, it might come up with a t-cut/touch up/polish.

sounds great particularly tubs and lairy paint.

I have been thinking about paint and have narrowed it down to two likely options:
- Rip off Klein/this guy.

VooDoo "The Hooligan" Limba!
The arrival of my daughter saw me get rid of most of my bikes, anything I didn’t ride much or that I only had because I thought it looked cool was gradually sold off. I kept my mtb because that is really the only riding I was/am doing. As a reward for all this grown up behaviour I did the only sensible thing and set a small budget (£500 ish) to get a c.x bike so I can do some racing this season.
I managed to pick up this scandium Voodoo Limba for £200 (sellers photo).
