  • Homemade effort from Mrs upsidedown. Orange pastry with boozy mincemeat.

  • Orange pastry - interesting.

  • That's just pastry coloured.

  • Turn on your Smell-O-Vision? Citrus notes seem reasonable, I have a golf-club bar worthy idea brewing

  • I had five mince pies last night for dinner and my morning shit today smelt like toxic waste ☣️

  • Cross-post from the vegan thread but non-vegans will also appreciate them, these have the best pastry of any supermarket pie I've tried (even before I went vegan). £2.50 for 4, I got them in Tesco:

  • Looks good. Was the pastry-to-filling ratio that of the picture?

  • Co-op mince pies - normal not Luxury or bakery shortcrust - smashable but not delicious.

Big empty space inside the pastry.
The pastry is grainy and dry, like making a sandcastle with dry sand. DOOSTY.
Filling is sweet, not quite cloying, but lacks variation and depth, no discernible booziness to my palate.

What's good about them? Somehow end up feeling quite light, I've just smashed 3 in a row and feels like I could back the whole deck in one sitting.

  • I will be making a lengthy trip to a Tesco tonight on this recommendation - you'd best not be over-selling them!

  • I've just smashed 3 in a row and feels like I could back the whole
    deck in one sitting.

    Dear God the heartburn

  • guys I feel fucking sick

  • I also like Konditors posho ones so these are great I promise!

@photoben I think that photo is a bit ambitious with the filling but they're not empty by any means.

  • Morrison's in store bakery 'fresh' 6 pack for about £1.50.

Best pastry of the year so far, short and sharp, no mush, good taste (without being £20 a box fancy boi's), good pastry to filling ratio, filling plump and juicy. 8/10, maybe 9/10 due to keen pricing.

+1 on sainbo in store 'fresh' being garbage. Only ate two and binned the others, pastry too thick, tasteless, mushy and dry, filling dry and gritty.

  • Yeah Morrisons are great. Being whacking them in the air fryer - really adds to it

  • I've become a bit partial to their shortcrust mincers, £1.25 for 6.

  • How long in the air fryer please?

  • Not long - maybe a couple mins at 160.

  • Does anyone like a real mince pie?

We make a lamb mince pie with all the same flavours as the modern classic with shredder shoulder of lamb.

The most delicious thing of Christmas I recon.

Works as pre-lunch or a starter.

  • Local bakery do a quince mince pie, so naturally had to give that a shot. Pretty good all told, solid combination of flavours, could have gone with being a little bigger. No photos as I was too busy eating and trying not to fall over on the icy roads.

  • Potensh, I believe it to be a similar recipe to the original English mince pies

  • Have we had Tesco crumble topped mincers?

    Excellent/10

A surprise, but a welcome one.
