Hive mind help here - we've knocked through a door under the stairs to join the dining a living rooms and closing off the door at the front of the house to make a storage cupboard. It's probably best to remove the oak post but worried we're losing a lot of the characterful features of the house - though neither that or the panelling are strictly original they do give the house charm.
Does the curved wall and then nibb look clunky?

Could the/a bookshelf go on the 1087mm span of wall in your above render to make it less of an obvious step?
-
• #5259
Exactly what I was thinking. Make that bit into shelves. Sorted.

The flooring is lovely, what is it? and are you putting it back down once the work has been finished?
-
• #5261
+1, more bookshelves.

Do not love curve and nib - could the store be squared off - or even (gasp) 45 degree corner instead - and could you salvage panelling to continue the dado around it ?

+1, curve is a little awkward.
-
• #5264
Would you suggest that then becoming a cupboard rather than open shelving or...nothingness.
I must say I like the curve - as it references a few other bits of the house but agree it does make things like the panelling difficult

its good but needs more LLL to really fit in...

How about bringing the curve to the end of the nib? So theres no nib, just a curved wall and then shelving as others have suggested?
-
• #5268
yep - lose the nib and the curve is nicer - dado panelling in the end niche is still a bit isolated IMO

dunno - but I think do one thing or the other - either the historic panelling look - extend and enhance. or strip it all out and use the curve for a more modern / art deco look. I do really like how you had it with the mid century . modern x cottage core mashup.

Wise bathroom planners: do you think an exposed mixer shower with a depth of 522mm, 422mm to center of showerhead, would be ok in a square 800 x 800 enclosure?
Was hoping to get an 800 x 900 enclosure to give more room but I can't find any with the door on the short side.
The Venn diagram of sofas that are comfy to sit on and sofas that look nice is two very, very separate circles.
