Do not love curve and nib - could the store be squared off - or even (gasp) 45 degree corner instead - and could you salvage panelling to continue the dado around it ?

Would you suggest that then becoming a cupboard rather than open shelving or...nothingness.

I must say I like the curve - as it references a few other bits of the house but agree it does make things like the panelling difficult

dunno - but I think do one thing or the other - either the historic panelling look - extend and enhance. or strip it all out and use the curve for a more modern / art deco look. I do really like how you had it with the mid century . modern x cottage core mashup.
