liners being pulled out with your hand
This was my main reason for returning them. It would happen everytime I took the gloves off and became annoying. Would be a perfect glove if they sorted it. Seems simple enough to add a few stitches on the end of each finger to stop it?

I've come to the conclusion that no glove recommendation from anyone works for you, even if said glove works for them (and all their mates in -25c...).
You just have to buy #allthegloves to find the right one for you...and then carry at least three pairs on any given ride to cover all temp ranges...

Lobster gloves from Planet X work for me, I got sweaty hands on a 4 hour ride in 0 degrees and had to take them off for a bit!

#allthegloves is the way.

I watched a slightly irritating video from GCN or Rapha with Kristian House about winter clothing a couple of years ago. It actually changed how I dress for cold rides, when I can be bothered.
It was less about number of jackets and more about layering. Removeable armwarmers under jackets was a big one. Gillets or jerseys under wind jackets (and now the indispensable burner), leg warmers etc. A couple of good but versatile bits of kit will see you through most conditions.
If you want to ride in squall conditions then yeah you're going to be spending a lot of money trying to avoid getting cold and wet.

Even better advice is to take up cyclocross, then you never go out for more than an hour from October to February.

It does seem quite a significant oversight, especially how effective they are with your hand getting clammy and adding to the problem.
I tend to scrunch my fingers up, grab the fingertips with my free hand and pull - about 90% effective!

Quick spin to Lyme park for essentially a road ride on my Mtb as it was still a bit icy here. Snowed a bit, temp still below 0 and as predicted I got sweaty hands in my lobsters!

Spare dry gloves that have been tucked inside your layers is a nice thing! I also used to put mine inside the bed and sleep in my riding socks when I knew I’d have a cold ride to work coming up so the gloves were warm as I put them on

Totally, I justified it by the lifetime warranty but it is a lot. I've beaten it up on winter commutes for 10 years and a few overnights but haven't crashed it or taken it off road.

I then to use a thicker pair (or lobsters) to start with and then change down to a thinner pair when/if I've warmed up enough.

i take it from your profile name you are tall and presumably then have big hands? I did want some px gloves but was put off by reviews saying XL is like a normal medium, does this apply to the lobsters?
-

I am tall (that’s a 29er xc bike looking like a 26er!) but I’d say my hands are fairly normal. I think I have xl lobster and I’d normally wear large. They are a bit tight in places but length is fine, easy to get on. Very cheap too so I think I bought 2 sizes then sold the smaller one/ gave them someone

This kinda makes sense but I guess how long you intend to ride makes a difference. I don’t think I would be comfortable during 10 hour rides in winter with arm warmers on, for example. I’d much prefer a LS jersey.
I’ve almost reached my limit of the amount of clothing I can be bothered to put on for a ride around Edinburgh in winter. This is incredibly boring but here goes; deep winter socks, Sidi Dominators, cargo bibs, deep winter tights, LS base layer, winter jersey, softshell jacket, merino hat, deep winter gloves. The only thing I can really do to increase my warmth is use a deep winter hat, winter base layer, glove liners and hardshell jacket. And clear lens sunglasses, they genuinely help a lot.
If I get wet at this time of year, then I consider myself fucked and I’ll sack off the ride. There’s no coming back from the shivers in sub-zero temps no matter what you’re wearing.

Sleeping in your riding socks is a great idea.
Similarly, I always keep my gloves under my armpits to keep them warm when I stop at cafes.

Sounds about right; I add scarf and oversocks.

Knew I’d forget something! DeFeet oversocks and a neck warmer can get added to that list.
It might be another model? Mine says Fiandre on the shoulder and Gore Tex Infinium on the side. Maybe that's the medium? The old one was called No Rain Fiandre.
