Restaurant Reviews & Suggestions - Where to eat?

  • We enjoyed Brasserie Zédel earlier this year. Its quite busy but authentic French and a really unique setting

  • I've booked in for Bubala tomorrow in Spitalfields which I've heard great things about. Also made it to The Tamil Prince in Caledonian Road way a few weeks back - 100 banging!

  • Glad you enjoyed. Hope the train was fun too. Saw plenty of kids so assumed they had some sort of child menu, sorry! Our 1yr old isn’t quite ordering a la carte so hadn’t clocked. Baby change is pretty poor across town.

  • Great reccos, thanks all.

Need to get to the Tamil Prince.

Bubala, Brat, Rogues - bangin one and all

  • You are in for a treat in Bubala. So tasty! Enforced set menu is unusual, but for me ordering and paying are the worst bits of eating out and having a set menu really simplifies this as an experience.

I also think that it is sensible from a small business perspective. You know how many covers you have, you know exactly what to buy in.

You do have to be able to back it up with excellent food. And they do.

  • I really liked the food at Tamil Prince. I disliked the white guy not understanding my correct pronunciation of names of dishes and then pronouncing them incorrectly himself when confirming my order.

    Get fucked

  • Ate at St Bart’s and Lisboeta last week - st Bart’s was bloody excellent, Lisboeta was meh

  • All not necessarily at that calibre (based on pics of Rogues, not personal experience of eating there) but in the wider area I really like:

    Brawn
    ACME
    Ombra
    Corrochio's
    Oren
    Little Duck
    Pidgin
    UCHI
Corner Room (not been for a few years so I don't know if the quality is still good)

  • We're off to Pidgin again next week; not sure the dessert will beat the hot cross bun pudding and salted butter ice cream we had last time, but I live in hope...

  • If anyone can throw some decent breakfast suggestions for me and my 11 year old, I’ve not made it into town more than 10 times in the last 2 years - thanks life.

    Covent Garden or soho.
Nothing fancy. Decent toast, coffee, and the ability to sit still with our fretting would be grand.

  • Can't even remember what eating in central is like. I know Fallow do an expensive but ridiculous looking take on the breakfast sandwich

Pidgin tonight was good, although not sure parsnip ice cream really works

  • Love a good brunch/breakfast, chain wise you’ve got two breakfast clubs in soho, one on Berwick street, one on d’arblay st. May have to book as they tend to get fairly busy on the weekend.
Or you could do a bills there’s one on brewer st, there’s also one in Covent Garden in the new development at the bottom of long acre.
I’ve done brunch at dirty bones, American style breakfast on sherwood st round the corner from great windmill st.
And I do like the black penny in Covent Garden, on great queen st, it’s a bit small inside but has tables outside.
Other than that I’ve always wanted to do brunch at Balthazar in Covent Garden, but their brunch menu is only 4 bits and the rest is very French.

  • Bar Italia do good coffee and pastries in the morning. Maison Bertaux for coffee and cake.

  • Got a table at Sussex tonight, recommendations nearby for drinks?

  • Why not blow her mind with a pink overload at Elan Coffee?

apologies if she is not wanting to be traditionally stereotyped regarding gender interest tropes for young women.

  • Dean st townhouse is a good spot for an early breakfast- by 11 it will be the brunch crew which means you wanna be long gone by then

  • Italian restaurant suggestions please.
    Central London/ towards Victoria.
It's for the Mrs birthday just the two of us.

  • Tozi is meant to be good just south of victoria. not Locatelli/Michelin heady heights but will go there at some point.
Bocca di Lupo on Archer St is great too, have eaten there a few times and look forward to going back.

  • Rapha is actually not expensive and quite nice

If you want toast there’s Paul rothe and son on Marylebone lane which is brilliant - quite a wide range of jams

On a separate note, I went to bodeans for the first time in 10 years last week and have no idea why I left it so long. Has not changed and was brilliant. A good lunch, sat down in Soho for £10 including tip is a bargain imo.

this esp with an 11 year old

just say no to coronation chicken

  • @Mr_Smyth thankyou🙏

  • i forgot there is also the nonnas or whatever it’s called where they recruit women via facebook/word of mouth and bring them over from different regions of Italy to come and cook the food of their region and then rotate them round the different restaurants.
probably not white tablecloths and loads of elbow room but again the food is obviously authentic

The last time I went to bodeans was ten years ago and it was really disappointing how much smaller their portion sizes were compared to when it was in its heyday. Hopefully that's changed for the better.

Food was excellent, just more expensive and less of it. Particularly with the fries.
