• For info, 6kw solar PV array, 10kWh battery, since middle of the year, 300l direct HW tank to run bath and showers.

Cost around 14k, paying back over 12 years loan term, payment is around £78 a month, zero interest.

Electricity demand also includes charging an electric car (Nissan Leaf 30KWh).

Battery, HW tank and car allows us to use TOU tarrif to charge overnight on very cheap electricity during the winter.

Also had cavity insulation fitted which cut a third off gas bill and only cost £1400.

    Located neat Dundee.

  • Is the £78 plus residual electricity costs less than the previous energy cost? Seems like a good way to effectively fix costs for the next 12 years if so!

  • Way less.

We were paying around £250 a month for fuel and road tax, car owned outright. Plus £200 a month on combined gas and electric. So £450 a month. Also probably £80 to £100 on car maintenance if you take the bigger expenses and divide by 12. These prices based on two years ago when we made the change.

Now paying £78 for the PC and battery,£100 for gas and electric. Car payment is £180. Maintenance is very low on the LEAF.
So £358 a month for a much newer car and this only has one more year to pay off, once this is owned it will be significantly cheaper than old setup.
