How long are you leaving it?
Doesn't it have a HDMI out? I'm sure mines a 2012 and does?

Mrs GB needs a dual SIM capable phone so it makes most sense for me to get a new phone.
😂 This is excellent logic

Ages. 30+ mins.
It has these outputs, and I have these adapters (think my DVI cable is in storage in Bow)

That's pre 2010, and you'll probably need a disc with the operating system on.

early 2009, having looked up the serial number.
I think I'm probably wasting my time on this aren't I?
However, if anyone has an El Capitan DVD I could borrow, please let me know so I can get some closure!

Well, minimum iPhone with Dual Sim support is iPhone 12, and that's £350+ 2nd hand. May as well pay ~£40/mo to get a whole new phone.
Plus I get a shiny new iPhone 14.

Can you unplug the DVD drive and put the HD or SSD in its place?

Can you get the original OS by searching for the serial number(?), as generally Macs can only be down graded only as low as the OS it came with, and I bought a white unibody MacBook in 2008 / 2009 and that had snow leopard.

I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro with original discs if this helps?

If all else fails and you are not dead set on installing Mac os I've had success installing Chrome OS Flex on an old 2009 iMac and it works really well. Obviously you'll need to create a bootable USB but instructions here are good.

@Muppetteer and @Dogs, if I could borrow the discs & keyboard I'd be grateful, I'll PM you later to arrange
thanks for your help!

Rebuilt the Mac mini early 2009 with @Muppetteer original disks and 500gb
Installed High Sierra via a patch using MacBook Pro, it didn't accept my password set with the restore dvd install, so I had to do it all again. The installer stuck on 6 mins remaining for 120 mins, so I did the whole thing again, twice.
Anyway, I'm here now. Thanks to @Dogs & @Muppetteer!

What are people's experiences with the new MacBook Air?
I mainly use my current 2017 air (8gb ram, 128gb ssd) for movies, office and a bit of coding / data visualisation (Matlab, python).
It's getting a bit slow at times and wondering if the baseline m2 will be enough, or worth springing for 16gb ram?
Think I might buy a synology NAS so not too bothered by built in storage, or am a missing something?

I’ve got a normal iPhone 11?

i have read that you need the 512GB hard drive to see the speed gains.
256GB has a single strip of storage where the 512GB has 2x 256GN strips which it can access in parallel ...
just got mine (in the midnight colour) last week and its real nice.

Need to replace the battery in a 2011 MacBook Pro. Anyone had any luck with the ones available on eBay/Amazon?
-
• #19948
Get one from ifixit, they have a reputation to care about so should be decent
-

I’d second the ifixit recommendation. I changed the battery on a 2012 MacBook Air, and it all worked okay. I’d also recommend getting the toolkit they offer too, it’s got everything you need and some of the torx heads you need are tiny.

Anyone using an ipad pro as a second monitor for Windows? Duet? Other?
I whipped out the old one, that gave me a Linux login page, and stuck in an SSD, with a view to installing something on it.
I am also using a mini-dp to HDMI adaptor, not sure if that would stop me seeing anything? That adaptor worked with the Linux drive installed
Command R is doing nothing either, Apple noise, then the white screen
