Yes. Black bit costs as much as the nut you'll lose without it. You can also apply beeswax to threads.

Yeah but it does hide the excess stay you’re supposed to leave should you ever want to adjust the position of the guards.

I've never used those little things. They might stop you get scratched up if you're carrying your bike and haven't trimmed them far enough but chicks dig scars
