Or being off their face on vodka, krokodil and synthetic opiates – quite possibly handed to them by their own commanders.
Can't find the source right now, but there was an Estonian long form article that quoted Ukranian defenders describing how fighting off the wave attacks felt like mowing down zombies.
Seen a few videos of Russian troops in foxholes/open trenches suffering hypothermia and barely able to move when being attacked by drones. The Russian conscript casualties are going to be mental.
