  • Ignore what's written on the nut, swap them over and it will put the arm in the right position.

  • Right, have done that now, tightened everything up. Pic attached. Only problem now is I can't thread the gear cable housing any further forward to straighten out the kink in it, because the motor has trapped it. See the second pic. I've tried a few times to line up the yellow lines on the hub in 3rd gear but every time I ride and change gear they shift again (have adjusted in both directions)

    At least the chain is taut now. No breaking necessary. Wheel just needed to be pushed back properly in the dropouts. No idea why the assistant handed it to me like that.

  • Ah I see, the L and R on the washers are for the rear facing dropouts.

    Twas SBC that installed the current ones only a few weeks back with the Nexus 5.

  • I have forward facing dropouts and they work just fine, no need for track ends..

  • yeah this too, i had alfine 8 and forward facing too, was fine but if you are a neat freak there is an option

  • Kinda rare to break these, an SKS mantel plate will fit (60mm wide I think), just drill out the old rivets and rivet new one in.

    As for your gear shift, if you set it on the line and then it misbehaves in both direction = cable issue, or the actuator on outside of hub is full of crud or not fitted properly.
    Must have a kink or some damage somewhere. If you remove old cable, measure the end of the outer to the metal nut with a caliper, tighten caliper and leave it set aside for when you thread it back together, think its something like 86.5mm but its hub dependent (shimano tech docs will tell you)

  • I've just stuck it together with Sugru. Can't be fucked drilling out rivets on a mudguard.

    As for the gearing, yes there is a kink in the cable now. I can't straighten it because of where Besbike have put the housing between the motor and the underside of the frame. It's not possible to even move the housing a mm or 2. See the above pic.

    It's only very slightly misaligned now with the two yellow lines. I will just have to suck it up. Not bringing it back to Besbike to have the motor taken off. I emailed Alex earlier today asking him if he was around, no response. From the time delay and the times I've received a response from him I'm guessing he's abroad.

  • I do not recommend these track ends. Every couple of months I need to re align my rear wheel because the axle has moved in these ends.

    Best method so far is to hand tighten the tensioners until the axle and wheel are in position, tighten the axle and then further tighten the adjusted by using a flat head screwdriver and a small hammer. Only this way it takes about 6 months before I have to realign the rear wheel.

  • Dude, the slack chain and the quality of the chain is highly concerning. If you can't (no judgement) make it right yourself definitely fine someone who can.

    It looks ok to me but open to other suggestions. I don't want the thing failing on me if I've got the motor running! I have a chain breaker now.

  • Ah motor might be crushing cable = shift issues abound. Normally you have to grind a bit off bottom of Bullitt frame to fit a bafang, hopefully they haven't jammed cable in same place OR, motors tend to slide around and rest against frame in one direction or another, so under load motor has moved a tiny bit and pinched the cable.

    All in sounds like the new boy has not done a great job at that shop. However, as a bike shop guy also, its basically impossible to find a Number 2 who is as attentive/tries to do a decent honest job, and sometimes you just really need a day or more off and not possible to sanity check every single thing they do before it goes out the door even though you'd like to. So yeah, fix the issues you can then get back to them when he's back off holiday.

  • Yes I completely understand the need to delegate - and then also understand that not everything will be as perfectly done as you would have expected in your absence. I am trying to be sympathetic.

    As Amey says no grinding required anymore. I don't think @Chalfie had any grinding or drilling on his either (different Bafang)

    From a distance it looks like a 7$ chain for a kids bike. Get an e-bike chain or if you're stuck with 1/8" then get a legitimate track chain.

    The slack chain is truly egregious, honestly... really. So maybe I'm being a bit judgemental, but these mid drive bikes need to be is perfect working order from the chainrings back through to the spokes. A huge amount of torque is put through them.

  • Few upgrades, installed a battery powered front and back light kit (w/ horn,brake light & turn signals!) from eBay. Pretty impressed!

    Also installed side panels using brackets that @moocher very helpfully printed for me!
