  • Just upgraded from a pixel 5 to a pixel 7 pro. Apart from the difference in size/weight feel, it doesn't really feel like a new phone.

I just transferred everything over, which I wouldn't usually do and that probably has something to do with it.

    I don't use a lot of apps.

Anything special I should install that will change my life for the better and make me feel like the upgrade was worth it?

I like widgets but only really use them for calendar and email at the mo.

I'd like a widget to do list one but I'm trying to force myself to use Notion (which I hate) and the widgets there are crap.

I run a video/film business so am open to business admin stuff, receipts, mileage, timesheets etc. Or more video centric stuff like release forms, sun position/times, camera control, viewfinder simulations, timecode etc.

At the moment I've got LinkedIn, Reddit, Instagram, HubSpot and a few parking apps and feel fairly underwhelmed.

  • When I got my pixel 6 it was mainly pretty similar to my previous phone except the camera is way better.

I like Expensify for recording expenses. Take a bit of time to customise it at the start and it's very good for a free one, never found the paid tier necessary.

  • As phones get better, the upgrade experience is less satisfying ime, as most phones now do everything most people need / want them to, and do it quite well.

When I got a OnePlus 4T about 4/5 years ago, that was a big step forward. When I replaced that with a Pixel 5 it was just a case of: it does the same stuff a bit better.

The camera and photo processing was the biggest improvement. Night mode on the pixel is amazing.
