  • Had my first rehearsal with a new band last night. Wasn't sure what to expect as I hadn't met half of them before and have never played with any of them. Turns out it was super fun and I was struggling to keep up in a few places which I love! Here's the playlist the guy pulling it together made.

Last night we played Whipping Post by the Allman Bros, Going Down by Freddie King, What'd I Say by Steve Cropper, Pops Staples and Albert King and Can't You Hear me Knocking? by the Stones.

The ambition is to get a tight hour of blues/psych rock type stuff down and play a few local festivals next summer. On the strength of a couple of hours last night - this is eminently achievable. They're great and tasty musicians. I'm still psyched today.

Went a bit mad with gear last night and took three guitars, SG in standard tuning, my Tele for open G and my Strat for Open E. Had a moment when my Vibrolux seemed to have shat its pants, but it turned out to be resolved by pulling the footswitch. I did struggle with finding tomes and getting the balance right in the transition from bedroom volume to full band with a loud drummer. Everything seemed to be too clean or too compressed and mushy. More time needed fiddeling with my pedals and amp at full chat* I think.

*nothing like tbh. Think the Vibrolux was on 3 most of the night and PLENTY loud.
