  • Met league today @doubleodavey?

I'm looking forward to it, particularly the river crossing

We're going to be struggling for numbers because of the Perivale Five tomorrow, which people sadly prioritise over x country.

  • Not today, something popped in my calf at Wormwood Scrubs about 50m after the start, and I've not run since.

I nearly had a swim in that river last time!

    Good luck, and stay right

  • Ended up getting hoka speed goat 5 wide version. Haven't ran in them yet but walked to the shops and back and the fit was good, I think. Will get muddy thos weekend and see how it goes

  • Going to try a parkrun this morning after two or three months off. Pray for me.

  • This is the first winter I keep running regularly.
I find it's a bit tough to go outside sometimes, but the running is actually super nice, and I do feel like a hero afterwards 🙂

Went to the local parkrun again today, and despite snow on the ground and a windy -2°C there were over a hundred people there, so cool!
Loved it, actually the only shit part about it was the bike ride home as I didn't bring proper gloves 💁🏼

  • It was alright in the end actually. Glad I kept pace and did the last km faster.

  • Oh no. That's bad news. Old age...

Apparently the water crossing is optional this year.

How does that work? Is there a (usually slower) b-line like on mtb trails? Or just a plain old boring bridge?

  • My xc fixture today moved to March as the council gave the park over to commercial festive events. I've had chesty lurgy and only resumed running this week so this is fortunate for me.

  • I've done a couple of races there, one through the rover and one not. There's a bridge over the troublesome water but I think this is a longer way round.

It was definitely bracing last year

  • Makes sense. The league here avoids water crossings and I sort of miss them in a type 2 kind of way.

  • Week 5 ticked off today for me. Comparatively easy week due to no race-pace and managed to get the 3 consecutive runs tue-wed-thu done too, which meant long run done today giving a good bit of rest before a tougher week next (6.5km race pace and 5km 'race' (parkrun) to do).

Long run today was good. Started achey and very lethargic but when I warmed into it I had a lot of fun with some hill repeats in the woods and little efforts here and there while keeping it generally pretty steady. 13km at about 5:30/km in the end.

Joined the December Strengthen & Recover Challenge (Complete three activities a week for 4 weeks; Minimum 10 minutes moving time per activity; Qualifying Activities: Crossfit, Weight Training, Workout, Yoga) so hoping that will nudge me on to get on top of physio again.

Edit to add pic of weekly distance levelling off. Plan has 37km as the biggest week so its all feeling a fair bit more manageable now!

  • There's a longer slower route using a bridge. River crossing was more of a stream today. Good fun though.

Had my best race for a while so things are looking positive for five miles under the lights in Battersea Park.

When did you hear the x country was off? I heard rumours it was very short notice

It was 10 days plus so plenty notice I reckon. Some clubs officers might've been slower to pass message on?

Nice one, you headed to the National xc?

  • Speedgoat 5s are amazing. Did 12km yesterday and finished feeling really fresh.

Now wondering what the closest road version of the shoe is...

  • not sure yet. need to think about logistics over the Christmas holidays.

    are you going?

  • Hoping to be there if I can, nice having it even closer than Leeds was.

  • Clifton is the closest.

  • Did a run this morning only breathing through my nose. That was fucking boring and now my knee hurts.

  • you're doing it wrong

I can't see one in SE (unless Streatham is SE). Is there anyone else doing this?
