Does anyone have an M2 ipad? Wondered if you could test something for me. Or does anyone just know the answer because they're clever and can read?
I want to know if it's possible to connect, via some kind of thunderbolt splitter (?) a card reader (USB 3.1 Gen2 10Gb/s) and a hard drive (nvme 1050MB/s Read and 1000MB/s Write)and then copy files from one to the other.
And what would the max speed be?
I have an old 13" mbp I usually use for this but it's getting on and speeds are hobbled by the age of the machine. Would like something snappier for a project in January that will have acres of data but don't necessarily want another laptop if I can avoid it.

I'm going to buy one, expense it, test it, and not tell you just out of spite.

Make sure you buy, expense and test the appropriate peripherals.

Picked up the AirPod pro 2 last week. I had high expectations after @Soul ‘s review up thread but they surpassed it and then some. Sound quality is heaps better but the noise cancellation is amazing. Car driving noise just disappears. It’s like going underwater, but in a nice way.
Actually looking forward to my flight next week to see how good they are on a plane.

Glad you like them.
Not very often that a 1 version upgrade feels like such a massive difference. Totally worth it.

Mrs GB needs a dual SIM capable phone so it makes most sense for me to give her my 2 year old iPhone 12 mini and for me to get a new phone. Handily I've just stopped paying for the 12 mini after 24 months of 0% finance direct from Apple.
iPhone 15 is going to be late 2023 so no point waiting for that to bring the other prices down.
Much as I love the 12 mini I wouldn't mind trying a slightly larger phone so thinking of the 14 or the 14 Pro.
Is the 14 Pro worth the extra? I take a few photos (mostly family/holidays) but not huge numbers but wondering if the vastly better camera(s) on the 14 Pro would be wasted on me.
(The difference in price is "only" ~3 London pints a month for 2 years.)

Last year there wasn’t much in it but the 14 Pro is significantly better than the 14 imo.

Looking at photo based reviews the 14 pro seems to be a huge improvement compared to the 13 pro. The rendering is completely different

Wondering why iPhone 8 is on that list? I have one, not being used, but I wouldn’t press it into service as a phone (unless “well how about now? Can you hear me now?” is your favourite topic of phone conversation).

To cover all types
iPhone 8 - old slow
iphone 13 Mini - small screen
iPhone 11 Pro Max - large screen
iPad Mini (5th Gen) - small tabletI’d guess he had latest iPhone and iPad already

ah, forgot there might be a dev requirement. Cheers!

..what I've seen so far is that yes it's quite different - but not necessarily better?
@Greenbank - without knowing you / without having seen your photos - frankly, if all you do is "take a few photos (mostly family/holidays)" you're most probably fine with any iPhone from the last five years

Proper review here: https://lux.camera/iphone-14-pro-camera-review-a-small-step-a-huge-leap/
There's a few 13 vs 14 comparisons there where I think the 14 just takes much better images. hard to explain but to me they now feel like proper good photos without any technical compromises. There's no "good for being a phone" anymore, it's good, full stop

Thanks for the link, there's some really impressive shots there 👍
He does say most of the stuff was shot in raw mode, and it's hard to tell how much this (and his skilful editing of the raw files) contributed to the stunning overall look..
..what I'm saying is I really am impressed seing what's possible with a phone now, at the same time I wonder how much "better" the images of a 14 pro look compared to a 13 or earlier, if in the hands of somebody just snappin' pics for fun.. -

Thanks for the input.
Plumped for the 14. Couldn't justify the 14 Pro as I'm not that fussed about photos.
(3 extra London pints a month to spend now too.)

I've got a Mac Mini 2012 courtesy of the forum recently. It had Linux on the existing HDD which I want to replace with an SSD.
I've stuck the SSD in, and get the Apple noise, and teh screen goes white, but I can't get up any sort of menu to boot from the DVD or USB or anything. Help!!

Holding down the option alt key?
-
• #19923
I've got a Windows keyboard, but none of the keypresses I have tried have done anything.
Windows key = Option key, I think?
I don't get a caps lock / scroll / num light if I press them on the keyboard. The keyboard and Mac mini worked with the old Linux HDD installed

Try command and R. Did you replace the mechanical hard drive with a solid state or add an additional PCIE drive?

I've had this problem, ended up having to use a Mac keyboard to get it to work. If your in Walthamstow I've got one you can borrow.
Anyone have any of the following they would sell:
iphone 8
iphone 13 Mini
iphone 11 Pro Max
iPad Mini (5th Gen)
Thanks
