Right, have done that now, tightened everything up. Pic attached. Only problem now is I can't thread the gear cable housing any further forward to straighten out the kink in it, because the motor has trapped it. See the second pic. I've tried a few times to line up the yellow lines on the hub in 3rd gear but every time I ride and change gear they shift again (have adjusted in both directions)
At least the chain is taut now. No breaking necessary. Wheel just needed to be pushed back properly in the dropouts. No idea why the assistant handed it to me like that.
