it seems good value but they're a fairly bog standard wheel and probably akin to lots of oem alloy wheels that come on new bikes out the box. The freehub body develops play quite quickly as its a bolt on type rather than 3 pawl for example. The LH rear wheel bearings frequently fail on low end Campagnolo/fulcrum wheels that dont have the preload/cup/cone arrangement.

This is back on (rim brake 105 in black for £289) seems a wild deal. From what I can tell, you'd just need one of these for a tenner to use the rear mech standard mount?

I got the 105 disc groupset which had the same description, and it's just a normal mount on the rear derailleur. I wonder if it's referring to the front derailleur, which is braze-on.
-
• #5282
It's referring to the rear derailleur which is direct mount but they always come with the extra hanger knuckle as standard.
-
• #5283
Direct mount is a thing for rear derailleurs, whether or not it's actually that or mislabeled I couldn't tell you.
-
• #5284

Yeah, I've never seen one without thinking about it.
-
• #5285
Maybe whatever frame these cheap groupsets were meant to go on was direct mount. But based on what I received, I don't think you need to buy anything else to make it fit a normal hanger. Ie it had that knuckle
-
• #5286
Cheers everyone, that's good to know.

I bought one of the groups from Wiggle (which is supposedly on its way). They confirmed that the rear derailleur can be used as either direct mount or standard fit.
If it works, should be a real bargain.

It's shimano's new standard. They don't make non direct mount in their top tier groups any more. Which is why they all come with the adapter.
-
• #5289
I adapted my R8070 rear mech to direct mount using an adapter from Aliexpress /csb

So do frames now come with the direct mount bit, instead of a derailleur hanger?
-
• #5291
A lot do or have a direct mount derailleur hanger as an option.
-
• #5292
They've come with an adapter like that for ages on the mountain bike mechs, long before direct mount appeared. It's integral to the design of Shadow Tech II so they can tuck everything in as close to the cassette as possible.
I'm not a huge fan of Shimano, but that is a clever design.

mine arrived 2 days ago and I can confirm it is either d mount or st fit.
Although, none of these items has original packaging. -
• #5294
Well that's me convinced, ordered. Hard to argue at that price
-
• #5295
Mine arrived this evening, while I was at work. I got a separate package containing brake cables, which Wiggle had initially forgot to include.
Great price and good service, well done Wiggle.
-
• #5296
Same, they posted two pairs of these cables 2 days after receiving the groupset.

With the Royal mail strikes you may get it for advent 2023

Edit: possibly not as good as that Moon deal above. That’s pretty good.
