You can set default uploads to be private in Strava, then edit entries you want folks to see to be "followers" or "everyone".

Does anyone here or know anyone that works for Strava or Garmin? I'm looking to get in touch with them about a thing.

Anyone else starting to get Activities popping up in their feed from people you don't follow, as sort of 'highlighted' activities?
-
• #5256
I haven't had it (yet) but you're not alone https://www.reddit.com/r/Strava/comments/yo9oxn/anyone_know_how_i_turn_off_strava_showing_me/
One possible solution is to change your feed ordering to "Latest activities" but according to Strava that re-ordering could take a few days before becoming active. My feed has always been this ordering and I only see friends. So maybe it works...

I went and checked, lo and behold, a stranger's NYC marathon activity. I think my feed ordering is already chronological too.

Is there a way of stopping Strava from showing you any segment that's less than a set length, say 1km? I don't trust GPS to give reliable comparison of multiple efforts over short distances and I'm not interested in my time down a 200m backstreet.

what's with the 'local legend' thing?
i already know i'm a fookin' legend, i don't need strava telling me. -
• #5260
Fookin' legend is national level, local is just regional
-
• #5261
I tweeted them ages ago about that stupid feature. They email me often to tell me I lost my "Local Legend" status on some fucking road that I've only been down once.

Mar 2021 in fact...
https://twitter.com/firsthippy/status/1370063097059233796"Uh oh! You’re not the Local Legend anymore" having done one ride, EVER, of a segment. Hey @Strava can you turn off the local legend email nonsense please?
-
• #5263
You can turn the feature off in the settings, then you won't be part of the leaderboards.
-
• #5264
They might've added that in the last 12 months but I couldn't find any way to disable when I was getting stupid notifications.

Has the strava 10k challenge (running) for December disappeared? Or did it never exist?
-
• #5269
I just looked and it isn't there for me either but I can't remember if I signed up to it or not!

I tried Strava subscription for the free 3 months trial, didn't use/need any of the paid features except for creating a route to use in an event organised through Strava. (Even then, the route was created in RWGPS and then uploaded to Strava route editor).
I forgot to cancel it before the yearly payment kicked in (3 days ago).
According to this support page, I am entitled to a refund as it was within 14 days, but can't seem to find a way to apply for a refund and would be surprised to see it being refunded automatically without any request. Anyone been in a similar situation before?

I actually think this feature is quite clever, probably proven to nudge users to cycle more therefore use the app more and reclaim “legend” status.
Before this feature it was all KOM / QOM or top 10 times on the day which probably only a very small amount of users were motivated by.
Focusing on number of segment rides rather then times must motivate a much wider user base.
Obviously repeatedly emailing to say you lost “legend” status is a bit shit. -
• #5275
That aspect is fine. It's the emailing and the nonsense counts (local legend after 1 ride) that was poorly implemented.
Now that we have lots of fancy new ride/walk/run/exercise options on Strava where has the old ‘Virtual Ride’ disappeared to?
