  • Ah yes, there's the significant flaw in my workings. Googling the product code is a much better idea.

  • I actually got one very similar from Screwfix so all good, thanks!

  • This seems to be an impossible question to Google...

    Is the convention for writing "does not equal" when you don't have the ≠ symbol /=

    ?

    Cheers

  • I’ve never seen that, but have seen =/=. Programmers would be more likely to use != or perhaps <>, mathematicians might plump for \neq*

     * weak LaTeX joke

  • Programmers would be more likely to use !=

    And !== for when they mean "really, really not equals"

  • !==

    I’ve managed to steer clear of JavaScript all this time, and have no regrets. PHP I have had to touch. Urgh.

  • !=

    ! (bang) meaning not for a programming audience
    or if for a more maths audience you could use ¬ as the logical negation symbol

  • If you can manage ¬ I reckon it's pretty likely you can also find —on a mac, ⌥L and ⌥= respectively

  • I've never seen /= before.

    I'd probably use <> from Excel habits but I'd probably actually use ≠ You'll have it somewhere, just may not be obvious.

  • I could fit a 200mm dropper post on my XC bike. Is there a reason to go for a 150 or 170 over the 200?

    My thinking is go as long as you can if the purpose is getting the saddle out of the way.

  • Are they really that bad? Anything similar that isn’t so aesthetically challenged?

  • Looking at a set of mudguards for the new winter commuter.
    SKS longboards were recommended, but appear to be out of stock everywhere in 45c until mid January.
    What are similar full length and sturdy options in the £20-45 range?
    These look really good too, anything I’m missing about them? Would these suit the build (I had black ones in mind but the reflective elements sound wise for commuting in winter)

  • Anyone know about Japanese language and biker culture? What's going on with this jacket? Yellow Corn is the brand name. The manufacturer says it means Dangerous Warrior http://www.yellowcorn.co.jp/company/ But how? Is it wasei-eigo? Other words on their clothes include Hamsteak and Bumfucked Hillbilly. This jacket has some corporate logos with the wrong words. Maybe it's a sort of Bosozoku thing? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C5%8Ds%C5%8Dzoku

  • Is this for a secret Santa gift, where by they don't know who purchased the item? If so, please buy it.

  • Are they really that bad?

    Opinion varies. They look white in photographs, which some people find offensive, but in real life they're not that bad, and who's looking at your chain on a winter bike? This is a Wippermann 1Z1, the KMC RB chains look the same colour because Zinc is Zinc. The KMC EPT chains look different and a bit darker, but I have never been offended by the galvanised chains so I haven't tested one to see if they perform as well. KMC claims that the EPT coating is even better than RB (galvanised). A KMC Z1 Wide EPT is otherwise almost the same as a S1 RB, slightly deprecated compared with the bushed B1 and Wippermann 1Z1 but still perfectly usable.

  • Get some SKS blummels on there 45 or 50s depending on the clearance.

  • It's not that deep. I was in China for work a few years ago and there seemed to be a massive trend for black clothing with non-sensical English words / phrases in large fonts. Some quite comical

    I guess it's the same as the use of kanji / hanzi characters in clothing / tattoos in the west.

  • I confess that I bought it, as a gift to myself

  • Japanese clothes culture is way more sophisticated than the Chinese.

    Some of the stuff in the Beijing malls were proper cringe worthy, can't say the same of those in Tokyo.

  • Have you seen that jacket? Are you part of a sophisticated Japanese biker gang you'd rather we didn't understand? If so no problem.

    Edit. Just realised you might not have seen the jacket in question as like I have just done you may have put that user on ignore. I honestly can't tell if he's a troll or just a tedious bore

  • It didn't stop me from stocking up, just get one.

  • Disgusting but tester approved it is then ;)

  • I’ve always considered the original biker Bosozuku to be a bit more serious and associated with gangs and crime. The customising style transitioned to cars, but in contrast the type of people who were doing it were doing it in a comical, ironic way just for a laugh. That jacket is something I’d associate more with Bosozuku car customising than with the bikers.

    The company has been around since the '80s. They claim they grew from a street racing scene on a particular road, where the biker with the fastest time was the Yellow Corn. They grew and went on to sponsor drag racing and motorcycle racing. I'd love to know what the joke is. How do you get from Yellow Corn to Dangerous Warrior? It's got to be some sort of ironic self-parody. Or something. I need to explain why I have Bumfucked Hillbilly on my back.
