Building a bike out of a pair of shif- I just wanted a gravel bike

<<< Glad to hear it! I figured since I already have a road bike I might as well go for the widest I can get on this bike. And to be honest most Fife/Edinburgh roads are so shit I'll probably be glad of the width on tarmac too :D

Should get this built up on Tuesday, barring any unforeseen incompatibilities..

It rolls!

Had to stick some tubes in as the tyres wouldn't seat, and braking is meh, but apart from that and bar tape it's all set!
Took it on a wee test ride that just turned into a normal ride and it rips. Handling is quite snappy with the 80mm stem, not a bad thing, and the tyres roll super fast and surprisingly almost completely silent. Found some great tracks I'd not been on before, but there's no gravel in Fife.

Reviving this thread since I've had the bike about a year, it still exists and is very good.

Went on a 3 day trip immediately after building, ngl the front rack from the pub bike was not optimal, handling was quite strange

Setup improved with passport cargo cages, but more importantly the mudguards are stupendous, I no longer swallow the terrain in quite the same way as before

Power meter went back on the road bike where it belongs, so this was the bike for summer

Took it to marshal Grinduro, probably the most fun I've had on a gravel bike.

However some of the descending (and the bike already being really slow) got me thinking about the value of drop handlebars, but I'll save that for a project-compilation thread :)

It's so cool. BB ground clearance looks massive!
