Mini mince pies get me surprisingly angry. People have suggested I just chill out - but in some way they represent all that is wrong with the world/people.

I had a box of those Aldi minis over the weekend - could have sworn I picked up regulation sized mincers so was a bit disappointed right off the bat... they were pleasant enough, pastry / filling ratio a bit off, but the icing sugar on the top leaves tell tale signs of mince pie usage all over the house which was annoying.

Bought some of the Heston fig things to take to work tomorrow. They sound a bit of an odd combination, anyone tried them yet?

Unfortunate season opener - toddler handed me a half chewed pie his Aunty had given him that he had decided he didn’t want.
I’m not sure I’m ready for him to reject mince pies. It was only a year ago we caught him stealing and eating them behind a curtain… such innocent times.
Didn’t want to waste the half chewed one though. It wasn’t great, so maybe there’s hope the wee bairns just discerning.

Probably just need to start feeding him brandy earlier in the year, think my mum starts feeding the Christmas cake around September.

I went into Greggs in Lewisham to buy some mincers on Saturday and they didn't have any. Not even an empty space. "Not doing them yet" they said.
So I did the only logical thing and ordered 12 from Konditor instead.

I've been so patient and waited until 1st Dec. This banged.
Pastry - elite
Mincemeat - rich and a tiny bit boozy

Just had a standard Lidl Favorina. Not terrible but very average 5/10. Dry, claggy, a sad mincer indeed.

I seem to remember last year the Lidl pies sucked balls a bit.

Went to some charity gig last night, complimentary mincers were supplied by Gails and Waitrose. First up, the Waitrose numbers must have been bottom of the range - pretty shit with too much slightly soggy pastry my only lingering memory.
The Gails ones were better, but left me more disappointed at the missed opportunity. They had some type of golden sugar crust on top. Boils my piss this type of thing - a good mincer ruined by over sugaring the exterior. Cut it out!

Pauls have mincer x pastel de nata mash-ups. My disappointing wife ate one but declined to bring me one, for which I am rightly furious. Will definitely be seeking one out soon though.

I wasn't endorsing the (missing) quality.
As an absolutist, a Festive 500 ride, can be sustained by the poorest mince pie. -

Not a big fan of a mincer but got a hot tip from @pootsmanuva that greggs were a good shout, these are very good. all the ratios are there, fresh, tasty and spicey but not overly, it's all there.

Smashed a box of Konditor last night. Excellent yet again. The best way to describe them is like very carefully homemade mincers with aged mincemeat.
The pastry is incredibly buttery but somehow soft without being crumbly. Mincemeat is flavourful but notable absence of alcohol. A solid 9/10 for me, which you'd fucking demand for the price.
Remind me of the ones my mum used to make. And she was extremely good at mincers.

First homemade batch appeared today. Ace. I tend to burn them so will see how I get on with a batch soon.
