  • Not enough beats & rhymes.

  • Forget about James Hoffman videos, I'd rather enjoy the latest Hames Joffman video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1iuuIPr_8U

  • This is basically what I do anyway. Maybe I should start a YouTube.

  • My Gaggia platinum has died for the second time. What is the wife approval factor of going full on espresso machine from a bean to cup?

  • Why did I wait so long to buy a clever dripper! Brilliant little thing, using the v60 whilst my 2 and 1 year olds go mental at breakfast hasn't been producing the best results.

  • Haha! Interesting... I have been thinking of buying one for similar reasons. What's the taste like versus a pour over, and how do you grind differently, if at all? Will it use v60 papers, or do you need to buy different ones?

  • To me it tastes like really clean cafetiere coffee, which is probably unsurprising considering what it does. I've been using the same grind as the v60 and it was great straight away.

They use the filtropa or melita filters as they have a flat bottom, you could probably use v60 papers and fold the bottom if you wanted to. Mine came with a load of papers that look like the filtropa ones but just had a little sticker that said 'clever filter papers' on them, so no idea if they're different or which one's are the best.

It just takes all of the faff out of it, my only criticism is that I wish it could do bigger brews.

  • Yeah loving the Clever. Doing the water first then pouring the coffee on top was a good tip, feels very counter-intuitive though.

  • Purchased the Christmas Blend with your code, thanks

  • Nice! I seem to have stopped getting the points from the referrals so glad to hear the code is still working for others, thought it had broken. Hope it's a tasty blend.

  • The £5 Costa Rican bag James Gourmet Coffee are selling right now is really decent for the price! Feels very much like a 'coffee that tastes like coffee' in a good way; I like my anaerobic naturals and bright acidic washed Kenyans but it's nice to get a very balanced uncomplicated cup for a change.

  • I really didn't get on with my clever dripper - anyone want to make me an offer to take it off my hands?

  • I'd be interested if post an option?

  • Post necessary. £12 posted? Loins has first refusal.

  • Cool, dibs then if Tenderloin one doesn't want it afterall. Ta.

  • Even with the water in first technique?
Honestly I can’t imagine brewing with anything else now, it’s just so much easier, reliable and forgiving to bad technique compared to a v60.

  • Have been trying the 1 cup Hoffmann v60 technique and getting close to something drinkable (my grind was way off, when he said grind fine I took it a little too literally). I'm no pretty much back where I would normally grind for pourover and getting results around the 3.30 mark.

So I just realised I have been do this with a 2 cup v60 and 2 cup papers. Is it going to make a huge difference?

  • I don't really need it so feel free :)

  • And I'll go for it if rhb changes their mind.

  • If anyone is interested I've got a Sage Thermal Brewer for sale. Had a few people drop out recently. Thread is here: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/380835/#comment16732689

  • We've got one of those going spare because we have become hooked on the Sage bambino too.

Great machines...shits on the moccamaster in terms of brew quality. Surely somebody wants it?

  • I could be tempted to swap my Moccamaster for it if anyone wants a baby blue Moccamaster?

Someone buy this beauty of a grinder before I do. (I’ve already got a great grinder).

  • 1m45s in his follow up answers this, in short at 15g:250ml it works the same in the 2 cup v60 too
