My chrome cast works when it wants and not when I do.
Is there a modern replacement? I just want something that connects every time first time.

I've got a surround sound Onkyo amp, sub, three speakers (centre and front L&R (don't know where the rear speakers are although I expect you could set it up not to need them)), and remote. About 10 years old and now surplus.
I was weighing up what to do with it, but to get rid of it have concluded that we are happy to freecycle if of interest to anyone - any takers? Can send pictures and give model numbers if helpful, it's all in N8 for collection.

Chromecast with Google TV is the new version.
If it's not working then there's probably a decent chance that the issue is with your network somewhere and you might get the same issues with another device.

It's weird it just won't connect but is also connected. This is via Spotify app. I figured there is some weird compatibility. It works 9/10 times first time. But when not I have to kill the app and disconnect from the WiFi then maybe do that a few times. I don't think it's the network itself.

I get this too, just old tech I think.

If you buy something else let me know if it works every time.
When I want to listen to music I need to listen to music and it infuriates me that it doesn't work.

Onkyo amps are quite well respected. They’re the ‘engineer’s choice’ of amps and well built and specced inside if it comes across a little basic on the outside. Will be worth squirrelling it away for later if you have somewhere to store it.

Cheers good advice - someone has I think already taken me up on it though so going to see that through now, but interesting I didn't know that about the brand 👍🏼

If anyone has a turntable sat around that they're looking to get rid of, hit me up, I'm looking for something a bit fancy to replace a dual 505.

I've a Rega P3 24 in the loft that deserves to be used, would that fancy enough?

While I'm at it, if anyone is interested in a Naim Nait XS and/or pair of Spendor S3e give me a shout

Can anyone help me understand what might be going on with my Denon 550 home soundbar?
Plays anything over Bluetooth or WiFi without fault, but when the tele plays through it via HDMI arc it produces random clicks all over the place.
It was getting progressively worse, so the shop has suggested trying a new HDMI lead. So I removed the Denon supplied lead and swapped it for the first one I could lay my hands on - Asda own brand that was in the drawer. Problem immediately fixed! But only for a week and now the clicks are slowly coming back.
If I disconnect and reconnect the lead the problem goes away for a day or two. I just don't understand what could be going on!

These exist, sized for Tannoy M20 for reference. Sandfilled so they weigh a fuck-ton, so if you want to save them from the scrap heap you'll need to come and get them (Slough) or pay me to bring them to you

Anyone seen any cheap bookshelf-type speakers with Bluetooth in the sales? Nothing jumped out at me as a bargain particularly.
Backstory: I ordered some cheapo PreSonus Eris 3.5BT just as something to plug into my computer, but CeX fucked up and sent me the non-Bluetooth version and are now doing a full stock take (by the looks of it) as they must have mixed up the models all over the place, so I can't reorder the same thing.
edit to add: not too big as they have to go on the desk, and I like having a warranty

Going to be making some custom grilles for my Tannoy Eatons.
The cats think that they are a scratch post, no damage yet but not going to risk it.
Thinking of a walnut grill panel with copper woven wire mesh over it.

Custom woven cat fur?

copper woven wire mesh
I think cats will relish and overcome that challenge. 304 stainless steel is about 10 times as strong.

Anyone on here own, or have tried the Leak Stereo 130? Tempted.

Thanks.
I've ordered samples of copper, brass and steel... figured I would see how they are to work with and how stiff and resistant to cats they may be. Only about £4 per 15cm square sample, so going to be easy enough to see what works.
My concern with steel is working with it. I'm hoping tin snips are enough and it doesn't need an angle grinder and can be moulded to the shape easily.
Nice one, good point, thanks for that.
