  • I’ve done a trial fit, and it doesn’t seem to make any difference to the clicking in or releasing. Leaning towards washers, as I can see that on the drive side a very slight bit of brinelling has occurred, and a ridge has formed which I have filed down.

  • See the ETA to my post^

  • Noted, cheers J.

I have used the washers but will reconsider if advice to the contrary comes along.

The process has reminded me that I need a better slim pedal spanner.

  • v interesting. i dont even have a brompton either

  • I 'm pretty sure that I used a cone spanner when I did mine.
ETA - So long as you don't do pedal swaps on a regular basis, the cone spanner is most likely to survive.

  • That’s what I used, but it’s not a good quality cone spanner and wasn’t really up to the task. My actual pedal spanner is too thick for the limited clearance with these MKS. Something like this, or MKS’ own pedal spanner, would be a better job:

  • i use washers on mine (MKS easy urban step-in)
spanner is a cone spanner but a burly one from a BBB toolkit that has a plastic cover over handle unlike the usual dinky ones for cones.

which reminds me what size are front wheel cone spanners, mine is rumbling. are they cup/cone?

  • I have a Pedro burly pedal spanner, but for the MKS Ezy you need something thin - their own spanner is only 3.2 mm - whereas for your pedals even the fattest 15mm spanner would work.

  • Recent MKS factory tour vid is good

  • i'm finding it really hard to get things off my luggage block. to the point where i end up hitting myself with bag, consistently.

    is this .... normal?

(i have the brompton plastic one, its circa 10 yrs old)

  • A video might be useful. 🎣

  • can't possibly -- as that may reveal me to be faulty rather than the carrier block :)

  • Shame, I was looking forward to seeing that. 🙂

Not that it helps but I've yet to have a problem releasing mine. Have you cleaned it and examined it for any obvious wear?

  • I need to get some weight off my Brompton. Thinking titanium post, but my centre crank to top of saddle measurement is 805mm, so I need telescopic. Can't seem to find a titanium telescopic option anywhere but i'm sure ive seen it mentioned.

Looking for other ideas. Should I swap out my Marathon tyres to Conti Urban? Rear rack; quite a few on Aliexpress, which one is worth a punt?

    BB? Headset? Cranks?

  • Does it wobble? (The block) I had a screw shear off which made the block loose and bag hard to remove. Had to use an easy-out to remove the stud and replace with new bolt.

  • Should I swap out my Marathon tyres to Conti Urban?

I think that is worth doing. A nicer ride, less rotating mass, and a little weight saving.

I guess ti triangle and forks are the next biggest weight saving targets but sadly out of my budget.

The ti post has always struck me as a very expensive way to save not a lot of weight.

    Pedals?

  • Yeh, think i will upgrade the tyres first.

Brompton telescopic post = 706 grams (currently on my bike)
Ti Parts Workshop Titanium 600mm - 284 grams (if i can get away with 600mm instead of telescopic!)

Pedals i've swapped out already. And removed my Brooks :'(

Edit: didnt mention my bike currently has a Brompton telescopic and i'm doing measurements to see if I can get a 600mm exteneded post instead in there.

  • I can only imagine that the Ti BB axle would be a significant weight saver.

  • Brompton telescopic post = 706 grams

Ti Parts Workshop Titanium 600mm - 284 grams

    That’s a fair old chunk.

  • I've been having the same thoughts about my telescopic seatpost recently, it weighs a ton... my usual riding position (centre crank to saddle top) is in the region of 820mm & my rough measurement makes that a 620mm seatpost... losing 20mm seems a lot for me, but you may only lose 5mm be able to get away with it...?

  • also the TiParts telescopic seems to be unavailable?

  • Aye, that's a pain for you. I'm just on the edge and think I could probably get away with the 600mm ti parts post.

Will save a whack with that and losing the brooks. Probably order the conti tyres and post from sjs. Next up: rear rack

  • Cannae find one anywhere

  • Wouldnt buy a TPW post, as you still use the pentaclip, get a jtek or brompfication.

Jtek Titanium 580mm (includes clamp) - 350 grams
    Ti Parts Workshop Titanium 600mm - 284 grams + Brompton Pentaclip - 109 grams = 393 grams

Can supply the seat post, also have conti tyres in stock!
