Not much. Iran were poor in that game and had been killed off within 30 minutes. England look great when they take an early lead, but so do most teams. They look shit if teams go at them like the USA did this evening because they don't really know what they're supposed to do when they're on the back foot. Southgate doesn't know either.

That was a clueless performance. Utterly bereft of ideas, urgency, inventiveness and talent. And I reckon that's entirely down to Southgate. He's seen the USA v Wales game and said 'let them run at us, they'll be tired out in the last 20 minutes'. The only way England progress in this tournament is ignoring what Southgate tells them. Otherwise, beaten by Ecuador/the Neds in the last 16.
