I also really love the story of Andrew Wilkinson buying it

Just got home from a heavy night of drinking to find a Lagom mini waiting for me. Almost forgot I ordered one which was a nice pre Christmas gift from me to me. My favourite gift giver to my favourite gift receiver.

I normally put a folded teatowel over the end of mine for a bit more purchase. I don't think the spouts ever go back in their previous position though!

My 3-4 year old Wilfa Svart has started making a bit of a muted different noise when grinding coffee now and doesn't seem to be happy to grind for the full cycle it's told when set at 30 secs and will stop every 5 secs or so. Has anyone else experienced this?
I cleaned it a couple of weeks ago removing everything you can get access to from the hopper, top burr etc ...

Mine started to make an electrical buzzing noise when grinding so had to be decommissioned.....Wilfa told me to throw it away.

Really impressed with the Kapow blend for espresso, makes a really nice and balanced espresso.

It's annoying it's been perfect for my daily use but this feels like the end of life for the motor or something similar. Annoying that only a few components can be changed.
Maybe it's time to get that ODE Gen2 ...

I picked up a used one off the forum in the summer - has been flawless till the last couple of weeks.
Now, the grind button is very temperamental. If you press it and hold it, it normally works. If you just press and release it will grind for a bit, then stop randomly. If you then leave it, it turns on and off randomly - occasionally just grinding for a few seconds at a time. Wife and daughter now think it is possessed by a coffee devil.
I don't have the time to investigate, but at present i've resorted to just turning on and off at the mains and grinding by holding the button down. My current diagnosis is the switch is borked. You seem to need some weird security screwdriver to get in - I imagine what's inside is a mess of circuit boards and mad wiring anyway - so not massively keen to go digging.
Anyone know how diy-able these things are?

You’re welcome to mine if you can find the part that’s causing the issue

Anyone use any of the normcore accessories? Tamper/flattener/distributor/puck screen etc
Any of them worth using? Wondering about Xmas gifts to myself.

I got the latest tamper. I like it

I use the puck screen. Shots appear more consistent, but I got one of those needle distributors at the same time so hard to isolate whether it's made a difference.
Machine/grouphead seal need cleaning less, which is a more definite positive (though you do need to get used to catching the screen when knocking the puck out).

So after a bit of research and testing it seems the motor is fairly weak in those machines. I've had mine for 3+ years grinding twice daily from filter to Aeropress and definitely struggles more with grinding finer.
Someone on YT or Reddit suggested starting to grind then throwing the beans in which seems to have work this morning as it managed to do my full dose without stopping. Will try and keep using as is and get an ODE 2 when the Wilfa fully conks out.

I think those Wilfa grinders' buttons/timers are generally a bit fucked cos mine does similar things - sometimes it will stop after a few seconds of grinding and I have to press it again, and sometimes it'll go on for longer than I expect so I have to press it to stop.
Mine also doesn't really adjust grind sizes much at all; I couldn't be bothered to get it replaced because I only ever make pour over at home and the size it happens to produce is good for that, but it's occasionally annoying if I want to grind for cafetiere so I can take a supply with me to visit my mum. I also can't 100% rule out that my wife didn't break it as she took it upon herself to open the package and put it together when it originally got delivered and I was at the office. She's not a klutz or anything but I would've preferred to do it myself. -

My Svart timer dial thing seems to be an approximation depending on the day and the weather

This isn't filling me with happy confidence on the longevity of my Wilfa Svart...

I had the normcore puck screen and remembering it helping a fair bit. Allegedly they help compress the puck which increases resistance and means you can grind coarser. Whether thats something you want is a different matter but it definitely helped make things more consistent

Yeah I deffo have problems with grinding too fine to try and slow down the shot only for it to choke the machine.
Might be worth a shot (ho ho).

Forget what you know, new V60 technique just dropped

I am yet to watch this, but I almost dropped my cup of v60 brewed coffee when he said he released the original three years ago. wtf? where has three years gone???????
Yeah I’ve been using an aeropress much more recently. It’s also the least faff way of making a good brew.
