I would remove the rust with sandpaper and clear coat it.

Sandpaper won't get into any pits, and removes good metal as well as rust. I'd go wire wool first to clear heavy and loose rust, then a chemical process such as Evaporust to eliminate anything well attached or hiding in a hole.
Doesn’t seem to be any heavy or loose so I’ll grab some evaporust type stuff. Thanks for the tip.
