May be an issue with the lower rung Maxxis tyres? Nothing like that on the MaxxTerra 3C EXO blah blah blah in my experience over a fair few years of solely Maxxis MTB tyres (Minion's mainly)
Have had it, and still have it, on Schwalbe Pro One road tyres and WTB Sendero Gravel tyres. Never been a real problem.
