  • Yeah, I'd like to watch hippy pump.

  • onlyfans.com/hippy

  • Anyone got a favourite rear tyre for winter? Not too wide, I reckon 2.3 is my max. Tubeless. Won’t ride when it’s super muddy but will ride lots of wet rocks, loose leaf mulch and some slop

  • Can't go far wrong with a DHR II I think, although IIRC that's 2.4

  • Quite impressed running a Wild Enduro front on the rear. It is not fast, but it is very grippy

  • How are you finding those now that they've (presumably) lost their edges? I'm wondering about putting mine on a set of wheels for winter use and keeping the Assegai/DHR II (both double-down) for summer duties.

  • Hard to compare, I took off the Rear version as it was knackered, and put the old Front on the back. Even with the odd side knob having a little undercutting, it grips so much better. The Rear is just a bit meh.. I never really ride anything that calls for low rolling resistance, so grip is more important to me. Stuck a Magi-X Front on the front and it does what it's meant to.
I've also got a Magic Mary/Big Betty Ultrasoft combo to try out soon too

  • Magic Mary/Big Betty Ultrasoft combo

This is what I’ve been running on both my dh and enduro bike since the Big Betty was rereleased.
The Ultrasoft(purple) compound is exactly that though, very soft. It’s amazingly grippy but the knobs shred very quickly, to the point I’d say it’s better used as a race only tyre.
I switched to the orange compound on my enduro bike after going through a set of ultrasofts over the course of three uplift days…
The orange compound also shreds quickly too but not quite as fast as the purple.

  • Yeah, I'd probably run something harder for something like uplifts too! I tend to ride stuff that every bit of grip is welcome, so I'm not fussed if they shred quick - would rather I stayed upright* in order to be able to ride again next time

*I'm compensating for lack of skill by using sticky tyres

  • I'm compensating for lack of skill by using sticky tyres

    I compensate by walking EVERYWHERE.

  • I genuinely think I'm worse at walking

  • I'm compensating for lack of skill by using sticky tyres

    Samesies.
It's hard to use anything else after using the ultrasofts but £100 per 3 days of riding is pricey!

  • Since buying a new MTB I've had a lot more practice at walking. I think it's helping. :D

  • I now view doing manuals as a cost saving exercise

  • If you spent all your time in the air (or in my case, upsidedown) it'd be like riding for free!

  • I went along to the Nirvana Cycles shop ride this morning, it was fun and I got to ride a lot of new trails.

  • I bet Redlands was running well today!

  • Very slight seeping of sealant through the sidewall. Doesn't appear to be cut though. Could it just be a really fine slice or is my tyre experiencing stigmata having been ridden around by a cheap Jesus impersonator...

  • Tyre cancer

    New bike time

  • Wait and pray.. I patched a sidewall last weekend. Spent some time swearing to remount the tyre unsuccessfully. Tomorrow belongs to me (Alex Harvey version obviously).

  • Shout at it.

  • That'll go well with my Leg AIDS. Dibs new bike!

  • This is the way.

  • Are these Maxxis tyres?
The Maxxis tyres that came stock on one of my bikes were apparently tubeless ready but they wept little tears of sealant in lots of places on the sidewalls. Google showed that this was a common theme with Maxxis. They stopped weeping as much, the sealant does eventually block the pores but it was never 100% resolved.
I fixed it by never using Maxxis tyres again.

  • May be an issue with the lower rung Maxxis tyres? Nothing like that on the MaxxTerra 3C EXO blah blah blah in my experience over a fair few years of solely Maxxis MTB tyres (Minion's mainly)

Have had it, and still have it, on Schwalbe Pro One road tyres and WTB Sendero Gravel tyres. Never been a real problem.
