hope they still have one of those gilets in stock...

I really don't see this and think you'll see what you want to see. I could go on a thread about carbon wheels or e-groupsets or coffee or cars and say the same thing. Personally I think this is a thread where people often ask questions and source some good answers, rather than boast posting.

Strongly disagree with this. Sure, some people on here spend £££ on clothes, but most of the stuff falls under "good value" if you ask me. Sure, prices are higher than you pay at a big brand fast fashion shop, but the value you get in return is much much higher.
If you spend some time in this thread you'll see people linking to sales, sample sales, ebay listings, etc. I can't answer for others on here but i often wear outfits (awful word) that would've totalled £500 to £2000 if you got it all at regular prices. Haven't bought anything new in years though (apart from socks and underwear). I'd estimate my average cost for a piece of clothing is around 20-40% of retail, more often at the 20% end of the scale.
It takes time to build a wardrobe like this, but with heaps of saved searches on ebay, it takes very little effort

I just thought "oh yeah we get a proper winter too, I'll check out that jacket"
😳What's the closest Uniqlo/Tkmaxx/budget version of this or that fyallraven posted up there?
My winter jacket is dying.Edit: I'm expecting something like -20C

Something like this for extreme cold ?
They have Helly, Columbia, Haglofs, Rab, Berghaus and Fjern on sale as well most of it half price or less. I bought a mountain hardware puffa from them last year almost half price and its been so good its made all my other non waterproof winter jackets redundant.

yeah sports pursuit is pretty good, although I have had an iffy experience where I bought what was clearly a sample sold as a new item but generally if not worried about new season stuff it's a good shout
-
• #4483
something like -20C
For a fashion item in the UK? Why?
Alpkit or used (Rab/etc.) is probably most budget
-
• #4484
If you want to go super budget I’d get an ex army parka and line it with a cheap but decent lightweight down jacket
-
• #4485
Nah I'm not after something fashionable or for the UK. Just came across some warm looking winter jackets in the thread and thought I'd look around
-
• #4486
Sounds good, where'd you source this stuff from?
Also like the look of the GTX jacket, cheers for the tip @Retro_Bastard

Anybody can recommend a personal shopper? Asking for a friend.

Weirdly its kind of a unique jacket in today's marketplace - in the sense that it is an expedition parka but with big down filled baffles, which isn't that common nowadays and very much is a throwback to old school down coats of the 40s and 50s.
I'd just search for 'expedition parkas' or 'everest parkas' on eBay or whatever your local equivalent is and try to find one that you like - if you really want something in a similar style to the Fjallraven without spending Fjallraven money, that is.

Not clued up about uk sources anymore, others on here will know better. But try eBay , just steer clear of cheap knockoffs.

They’re cheap but IMO do not equate to fast fashion because they don’t go out of style.
That’s true, their stretchy jeans have been my choices for the last 10 years.

This Patagonia goose down puffer sold for £12.50.
Dude you can't just filter by lowest price sold and post that as a benchmark. £70-100 is the mode.

I've been using my Uniqlo down jacket since the week I bought your Genesis CdF, in early 2014. And it cost 60 quid. Perfect light down jacket for when its a bit chilly but not super cold. It doesn't loft like it used to, but it works.

Gonna go against the grain here and say for -20°C get something new and spend a bit.
Anything from a reputable outdoors brand in the sale section.

We've both lived in NYC. It was -26 celsius a few times when I was there. There's only so much a normal coat can do before you start to look like a total wilderness div. I wore my Monitaly Harry's coat, which I got at a sample sale for $150, all winter, but it was mostly thermals, other layers and a scarf that kept me warm. They were crucial.

I'm expecting something like -20C
I've worked for extended periods in -20ºC, always toasty wearing my Rab Expedition parka, handmade in Sheffield back in the day, they cost about £150 on ebay.
for your legs, thick merino leggings, plus Mammut Champ pants (double-layer softshell Schoeller fabric), have worked well. alternative pile-lined trousers by Rab are available.

This is why I went nuclear, I live in a much colder place than most (all?) of you and don’t own a car.

The Uniqlo was the lightest, cheapest and warmest down I’ve own, the only downside is that there’s no way you can find out if the down have been live plucked.
In the end I got the Patagonia Nano Puff to replace it as a long term synthetic down jacket.
Was i Stockholm last week. People had pulled out their proper winter kit, saw plenty of people in Fjällrävens heaviest down jacket
It was 8°C...
