Agree. I think it will need to change at some point. Must admit to be slightly disappointed that a retrospective application has been touted. Also the additional £350ish in addition to the VED through years 2 to 6 seems a slight backwards step to incentivising EV usage. I know it’s perceived as small change, but it certainly factored into our consideration. It will be circa £2500 more expensive over the first 5 years than our 2018 car, for people adopting under the new proposals.
We need some sort of system. Especially if petrol cars are banned from 2030 or whatever the current plan is. Just typically ridiculous that they are putting it off to the next parliament
