  • Some new (to me) surplus breaches/jodhpurs for (dry) winter rides.

  • Long sleeve jerseys with two way zips. Any recommendations? Don't need any of the two-way-zip hate, thanks

  • Ooo, got a link?

  • I'm looking for the same as well... 2 way zips are the way forward

  • My Castelli bib tights are starting to come apart after a decent few years of regular use. Any suggestions for any lighter bib tights (as in, not massively insulated) before I buy some more Castelli ones?

  • Lusso

  • These weird Dutch army snood things are very good

  • cosign on these, great product.

  • Are there any hiking overtrousers that will work for cycling too or is it better to get cycling overtrousers and use them for hiking?

  • What material are they made out of?

  • 50% merino 50% cotton

  • I know it's a basic bitch thing to say but the Rapha Classic II bibs are I think some of the best bibs around, although I don't know if they qualify as lighter-weight. Albion also get great reviews but I'm in between sizes so can't confirm

  • Any suggestions on waterproof commuting jacket please? Got a vulpine 2nd hand from here a couple of years ago that now offers zero rain protection

  • If it fits and you like it, rewaterproofing stuff in washing machine?

  • Have tried with nikwax twice now without any improvement

  • Lots of suggestions in the commuting thread from yesterday.

  • Thanks tonts. Will have a gander

  • Bib tights question - what's the ideal length supposed to be, should they come up above, at or below the lumpy bits of the ankle (aka malleolus)?

Long legged and trying to replace an older set of DHB that come right down over thr ankle there. Tried a set of Assos (I've been impressed with their bib shorts this summer) and they're a good bit shorter, above the ankle.

Going on photos of different brands online there are plenty of photos of this shorter cut, but equally longer ones.

2nd question, also now considering getting some tights without a pad, plenty of brands do this. Could wear the Assos shorts under / or mtb liners and mtb shorts on top. Seems like a useful combo and can then choose any brand of long tights without worrying about my bum so much.

But are there any downsides to wearing bib shorts + tights? Seems like a lot of straps for a start..

  • I wear no straps on anything. I think they're pointless. I cut them off of buy without.
I wear tights and bibshorts. Then wear tights a few times before washing
Tights as long as possible makes sense, to keep warm. Unless wearing overshoe then can get away with shorter.

  • Running tights come without straps, are cheaper, usually have some form of reflective detail and often a zipped ankle.

  • On a similar note to ^ about running tights, running overtrousers also work quite well for cycling. Usually a slim cut on the lower leg, which stops them catching the chain. I have some Montane Minimus which have velcro tabs around the calf to fold any spare material away

  • Interesting! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for asking @Tychom

  • What kind of trousers do you guys wear when it's raining a lot? Some waterproofs on top of your tights? Thanks:)
