Lidl seem to have dropped free charging while you shop, it felt so good

Going for a test drive of the mg 4 tomorrow. Due to the wait for a work car I’ve just ordered the mg4. It’s the best of a bad bunch that’s available.

The reviews of it are really positive. Most of the reviewers seem to be shocked at how good it is.

Test drove the mg4 and ESEV today. I loved them both but the es just felt more comfortable.

The main issue with the mg4 was I felt too low down and my hand kept hitting my leg whenever I turned. Didn’t matter how much I adjusted the seat or steering wheel.

I hope you can help me.....I have an EV business based down in Cornwall and I'm currently working with Spirii, a Danish Chargepoint platform who offer back office provision. We are keen to gain a better understanding of what is most important to British EV drivers so that they can improve their product and communication, and to provide better product

In short, the aim is to understand:
1) why Brits drive EVs
2) where the current pain points are in their charging experience - I'm sure we all have plenty of stories to share here!

Not to be that guy but where does my data go? This is a random form with no branding asking for mostly relevant info and then some seemingly irrelevant info. There's no privacy policy on the submission question - email. I wouldn't submit that form without it.

What I will say is that paid charge points are bloody useless. You need a million apps and they are charging a fortune. So totally inconvenient and expensive - literally the worst product.

We had a short term hire of a Tesla 3 last week at work and I got a brief drive of it - first time. Dynamically really good, just a very harsh power cut with loss of traction. That UI, controls and display though, at best very annoying, at worst genuinely dangerous. Unintuitive and lacking in any tactility. Do owners think you truly get used to it? Are other models different? I really think a basic HUD and having a few vital controls on switches would be a massive improvement.

£0 VED for electric vehicles to come to an end from April 2025. Will be (for the first time ever) retrospectively applied to vehicles registered from April 2017.

Any EV vehicle costing more than £40k will incur expensive car supplement from 2025 also.

Given the popularity of electric cars, the fact that they still have the majority of negatives of IC cars and the fall in petrol tax revenue it was bound to happen soon.

Yeah it was only a matter of time wasn't it, its like the get a diesel car and then they taxed you more when they changed there minds.

Does anyone have an electric car and no driveway and no work place charging? My town has maybe 2 chargers which according to Facebook never work. I so desperately wanted an EV but just can't figure out how to make it work.

Could you rent a garage locally, assuming it has a power supply?

Currently, whilst between abodes. We don't have a charger on our doorstep, my best bet is the train station 20 mins walk from my work. It is a pain in the arse.

Saying that I've seen some folk in the EV FB pages saying they were able to get a small gulley installed on the pavement to run the cable, you would need to ensure street parking outside your house

Phew, just checked and our Leaf was registered in March 2017.

Planned to come in after the next election so we will see what actually happens.

I'm pleased EVs will be subject to Vehicle Excise Duty. They may pollute less than internal combustion engined cars, but they are still environmentally costly to make and run.

Let's not forget that EVs are saving the car industry, not the planet.

Agree. I think it will need to change at some point. Must admit to be slightly disappointed that a retrospective application has been touted. Also the additional £350ish in addition to the VED through years 2 to 6 seems a slight backwards step to incentivising EV usage. I know it’s perceived as small change, but it certainly factored into our consideration. It will be circa £2500 more expensive over the first 5 years than our 2018 car, for people adopting under the new proposals.
