I have wondered whether the 'practical' handlebar position (as shown above in post #13) was ever used in the past, and now I have the answer: yes. So my use of it now is not completely anachronistic.
I found this picture while looking for seat pin positions in response to Jonny 69's comment.
So, once again we can see - originality is undiscovered plagiarism.
