  • This is dumb and I love it.

Could be a nice little wheel for someone's project

  • Well they always said you gotta be tough if your gonna be dumb...

  • with pinion

  • Ooh I quite like that

  • If I hadn’t promised ‘no more bikes this year’ I’d be all over this one.
The raw one is for inspiration.

  • That moulton is a steal!!

  • Ha, I bought a Moulton APB this year. I tried the minimalist build at first but there is no point since
the frame is so badly made it will always be about as heavy as a small moon. I went the other way
    and attached all the things.

This on the other hand could be porn

  • That is Porn! Is that yours?
Do they make a disc version?

  • Not mine, it's a prototype of of a new model they bring out next year.

the frame is so badly made it will always be about as heavy as a small moon.

    Really?

I've been lusting after a Moulton since seeing the old school off road one at Bespoked last year. You don't seem too impressed by the one you bought?

*I say lusting but it's more like searching ebay every so often in the hope of finding a cheap one.

  • Interested too in the opinion why it doesn’t seem that good.

  • Looks great - but will be spenny (£7500++ at a guess).

  • Let me start by saying that the ride of the APB is sensational, especially the front suspension is fantastic. It's not like any MTB suspension but more like a subtle car suspension.

The problem with the APB is that it was meant to be a cheap entry level model but the frame is
expensive to manufacture because of so many weld points. Instead of moving the production to Asia and save on labour cost they instead made it from Hi-Ten steel, simplified the construction a bit an had it made by Pashley.
The result is a combination of shoddy manufacturing, still high labour cost, crap material and a 5kg frame.

I split the bike in half to take it home on the train after I bought it and each half was still heavy, usually when you hold bike parts or frames in your hands they feel surprisingly light, every part on the APB feels surprisingly heavy.

I am pretty sure I will end up with a modern model eventually just because the ride is so good. I wish they sold a frameset but they are marketing it as a collectors item with over the top bling
builds on what is essentially a dorky utility bike.

Mine is now in a good rideable state with proper brakes and shifters and wider handlebars so you can ride it out of the saddle which wasn't possible with the original narrow bars.

  • I love a nice Moulton. I’d just like to chip in with my old one! And sort of a build thread here.
