Picked up a Technic 42121 Excavator from Tesco, down to £21
It's not a massive set, but I've only managed to build the bucket and arm (bag 1)
Fun so far.

Just got one of the above as well as a box of assorted bricks for my birthday. Had lots of things planned for today but somehow I have ended up in prison.

BiL sent this through asking if I wanted to go halves.
I do not.
Leaving it here for those with deep pockets.. -

My latest project is a Cornish mine house.
The first step was to decide on a scale as certain details demand constraints or compromises due to brick availability. The obvious one is the chimney which should taper, that in Lego is near impossible, and cylinder parts are available in 2, 4, 6 and 8 stud diameter options.
So far i think the size has been decided but I still need to work out how much of the working innards are possible with technic pieces at that scale.
The colour is going to need some work too. ‘Stone’ effect embossed bricks and cylinder pieces cannot be found in the same shade. No doubt it’s going to have to be rebuilt several times before I’m happy - but that’s all part of the fun, eh?

Small person is obsessed with remote control cars, and we’re thinking of getting him a small one for Christmas or his birthday.
Since he’s also into Lego, thinking of getting him a Lego one, concern is it falling apart everytime he runs it into a wall, so are there robust Lego versions? Or should I just get him one that isn’t Lego? -

Lego "RC" is not like conventional RC. Controlling via a touchscreen will probably be both weird and disappointing for a true RC enthusiast. That would be more my concern than constant crash repairs, as Technics holds together well under quite violent treatment.

How old is small person?
Tamiya kits are
likeLegoforsadistsa good progression, might be a fun project for the pair of you (if they are older than 10) -

Small person is 4.7, so he’s too young for actually building the Lego kits unaided. But his uncle is enthusiastic about Lego and I don’t mind building for him
@gbj_tester yeah looking at the remote control sets that Lego technics do, the smart phone operated ones don’t fill me with joy. Don’t really want him to need to use my phone every time he wants to play with it.. -

Bit further forward with the mine building project.
I think I shall name it ‘Wheal Byldah’.

Cool! Are you going to do the rest of the winding engine?
-
• #1424
That’s the plan. There will be a chimney , an adjacent annex for the boilers and a hidden motor powering the Bob with a ‘steam cylinder’ and winding wheel. I will be cheating and using a K’Nex wheel cos Lego don’t have anything big enough.

Sounds great! Looking forward to seeing it develop :)
Saw this in Sainburys today. Seems like a god real for imo the best of the last release
