Has anyone had issues with routes not loading on a Wahoo Bolt Edge? I can't seem to send any routes over from my phone. I've tried a factory reset on the unit and I've tried using a different phone. No luck.
Edit: connecting to WiFi and updating to the newest software version seems to have sorted it.

Garmin inReach satellite devices have triggered 10,000 SOS messages since their advent in 2011. Those SOS calls go to Garmin Response, a 24/7 staffed global emergency response coordination center. Garmin just released a bunch of fascinating data about where these calls are coming from, who placed them, and more

How useable are "old" GPS-devices in 2022?
I was looking into devices like: Vista HCx (really cheap), eTrex 10/20x or a GPSmap 62 (64 is too much $$$).
I'd get the maps from OSM. Everything I really need is typing in an address and then follow a route (I dont need turn-by-turn instructions, as long as I can see a map).

Garmin on device routing is the worst possible option and I would always pre load a gpx file for a route
I have used device such as the Etrex H, the HCX, Etrex 30 etc etc
they all work well enough but the routing can be a little /lot wayward.
Address finding using OSM and older devices is generally not a good option as hardly supported

They’re totally fine, just cumbersome to use. Loading a route on the Legend HCx involves getting the USB cable out, plugging into a computer, etc., compared to Bluetooth/WiFi sync on modern devices. That said, my Legend HCx lasted 11 years and I’d probably still be using it if the USB port hadn’t given up the ghost.

Damn. That what I'd like to get rid off.

USB cable out, plugging into a computer, etc.
I thin that would be too much hassle for me. I'd like to keep it simple.

I don’t know what I am looking for but think it might be in here…
Anna wants to be able to watch my outdoor rides randomly to check in okay as the driving here can be… yeah… are there any gps devices that offer it?

I've not used any Garmins but I know wahoo and hammerhead both offer a live tracking link that family can follow

Perfect thanks I’ll look into it.
Couldn’t even think how to word it to google.

Prepare for worried phone calls when the connection drops or it says you're in the sea etc.
Its good overall but it can cause more grief than it saves in my experience....until you're upside down in a ditch and it saves you I guess.

Garmin have LiveTrack which has an Auto Start option so your list of chosen people get an email with a tracking link each time you press start. My Garmin doesn't have a data connection so it is relayed by my phone but I think the fancy LTE watches can do it standalone.
Strava Beacon or WhatsApp location sharing are also an option.

The new Summit features on Wahoo seem really good. I know it’s catch up with Garmin/Karoo but very welcome. Popped up on a ride in Essex today, not many real hills but the interface was pretty good.

Gaaaaaarrrrggggghhhhhh, it’s that annoying time that happens every 3 or 4 years when my HRM battery needs replacing.
As always I replace the battery and it needs to be paired again. I try to do this but it refuses to pair. So I remove HRM from Garmin and then try to add it back again and it still won’t connect.
I’m sure I go through this every time the battery is replaced but it’s always too long ago to remember what I did last time.
Any tips? (Other than ‘get anything but Garmin’)

Yes: Don't make the mistake of assuming Wahoo are better.

Yup cheers.
I also tried another battery just in case the replacement was a dud. Same result

I just add it again and it will either find a new code for it or it will be the existing one and just work. This is the same on 1030 and 1030 Plus. Literally did this the other day. Actually it was a new (old) Powertap strap I'm using so it's appeared as a different device in the Garmin and TR.

Wahoo ELEMNT bolt map problem
There was an update about a month back and my maps have gone. I still have breadcrumb trails and can follow a route but not map.
There are ways to bring the maps back…but I can’t make sense of the process
Can anyone explain it to me like I’m the idiot I am?

What does the map update bit in the Wahoo app say? Have you tried just deleting and re-uploading the maps?
-
• #2673
Yeah that just made it crash, removed the African, American, Asian maps
No joy
Did a hard reset
No joy
-
• #2674
By hard reset do you mean a factory reset, requiring you to reinstall updates and re-pair with the app? I’d get rid of all existing maps and begin again with the smallest possible map, e.g. just England if that’s where you are.
If so I can only suggest asking Wahoo support - they are reasonably quick to respond. -

Yeah can’t get into the “manage maps” on the app anymore it just hangs
Raised a ticket
Went for a ride last week with 3 bolt users…all had the same problem. I suppose if the original product works so well that nobody buys new products from them, Wahoo has to find a way to break the old product
New Roam out: https://uk.wahoofitness.com/devices/bike-computers/elemnt-roam-buy
£350. Basically the same physically, but with a 64 bit screen, USB-C charger.
Some new software features coming, but all to do with training and metrics so not really of interest to me.
