  • PFP on Pidcock's old bikes. Mechanic needs sacking.

    Men's race was sick though.

  • Ha, cheers. That’s a handy extra dose of motivation. Good luck with yours, I’ll buy you one if you top ten it 💪🏻

  • I had a look at East Brighton park on my way home just to check if there was any flooding and its totally saturated but seems OK. The worst bit will probably be the wind unless it calms down in time. The forecast says a gentle breeze but don't take any notice of that its been really hard work this week with 40-50 mph gusts so I'm going to make my mind up in the morning because I'm a fanny. Good luck all who race tomorrow 💪 type 2 possibly type 3 fun conditions i reckon

  • Not sure where to post this but was a bit surprised at muddy hell attendance, looks like everyone had a good time but there was probably only 1/3 of the crowd compared to the inaugural event, weather wasn’t great but that makes for some comedy out on the course.

hope that doesn’t put the organisers off as it’s a great event.

  • Having not been to the original event I thought the crow was quite a good size similar to the summer cross series and the weather will have certainly put people off watching.

Let's hope not, it was such mad fun! 10/10 would do again!

  • It was probably 50% compared to the very first event, a bit more spread out this time with spectators at Big Bob, the beer tent and the pavillion. I think given the official announcements were pretty late and with the rain, it was a decent turnout. I really hope the sponsors will commit to more, I know the organisers will!

  • I think Caspar and Winston were very good at marketing their events and had a broad network of contacts to promote through that takes time to develop.

They also had some sponsors with pretty deep pockets for a grass roots cx event.

What I never understood for Muddy Hell this year was the date, HH seemed to transpose their Halloween and Bonfire night events.

  • The bonfire is a huge fundraiser and to make the most of that, it can't clash with the Brockwell Park display so they flipped them.

  • Well that makes sense.

  • Thought it was a great event, coffee van by big bob, plus a dedicated beer tent, plus the pavillion shop and pizza truck. And a free fireworks display.

To my shame I never attended the original events but I thought the atmosphere was great, even if the velodrome can definitely sustain more people.

I can only encourage more people to enter and spectate next year! Spectating at the big bob corner and racing through it was fantastic, a proper roaring crowd that you don't normally get at league races.

  • There were decent sized crowds at the summer series races this year too, so it's clear, to me at least, that there is an audience for cross races at accessible locations.

  • Did you race?

    Here's my bike afterwards.

  • this is meme-worthy

  • I wouldn't say i raced more twiddled around trying to (unsuccessfully) stay upright i was on a mtb with summer tyres as my only offroad bike now and lost count of the times i binned it. I managed to slide nearly half of the off camber run out of the woods on my chin the twice more on the same section despite taking it way easier. My glasses got so muddy by the last lap i could hardly see and got confused at the end and thought the start flags were the finish so sat up and pulled left only to get over taken by about 5 riders on that final straight 🤦🏻‍♂️ i was still finding mud in my ears this morning. Any links to photos yet? I'm sure there's one me on my head somewhere. I fucking hate cross/ i fucking love cross. Someone from the council has got the hump because the park is fucked 😕

  • The park isn't fucked. No-one will know we were there in 4-6 weeks. As @leggy_blonde can testify, it might look awful the day after but grass is tough as fuck and will soon grow back.

  • Green Council down here can be a bit uppity/cunty. It was only some criticism from a local Councillor on Facebook not sure if it's someone with any clout. It's meant to rain every day for a week so will probably look much better by the weekend and yeah grass does grow back

  • Did it need the support to stand?

  • Thick NIMBY cunts. I gave up organising because I was fed up of these people who thought mud somehow killed grass. I hope East Brighton Park survives as venue because it is a great one.

  • It'd annoy me less if Brighton council were consistent but if you pay them tens of thousands of pounds to host an event you can do what the fuck you like with the place. I hope it stays on the calendar as its sorted as a venue and it does drain better than Friston forest

  • Your poor washing machine.

We were lucky in the old fellas race, as it had stopped raining so whilst the course deteriorated, the mud mainly stuck to the bike, rather than getting thrown up off the wheels all over the rider.
