  • You need a rubber bush

    I drilled my PDW guards and used one of those spare leather washers you get, seems to do the trick.

  • Perfect . You know those couches you see dumped down the lanes . Now they have a use for washers!

  • Anyone tried the Kinesis Fend Off ? Looking at the 50mm version.

  • People with gb stainless guards, do they really need an extra stay on the back?

  • I bought some recently, but didn’t fit them (I bought the wrong size).

    Eventually fitted some VO alu guards which only use a single set of stays, but the GB ones were much much stiffer than the alu ones, and don’t have much sideways flex. I’d be very surprised if an additional set of stays make any difference at all.

  • Haven’t had them on a bike for a few years, but never felt the need for an extra set - this wasn’t off road though.

  • Looking for a set of full coverage guards for a rim brake road bike that'll fit over 700x28c tyres (don't need to go any larger). I've got eyelets/mounts for proper guards rather than clip on ones, happy with metal or plastic. Ideally less than £50 for the set.

    So far I'm looking at narrower versions of the PDW Poncho and the Kinesis Fend-Off, any other suggestions or recommendations? Thanks all.

  • I really liked my matte black sks in 35mm over 28c on my dolan

  • I'm having a bit of a mare with a pair on Honjo guards which were fitted by my LBS. They're 35mm and I'm running 26mm tyres, in theory everything would be great, right? The front is (mainly) ok but the rear rattles, doesn't seem to want to stay aligned - it almost seems to twist through normal use and then we get tyre rub. Needless to say they're doing my head in, however great they look.

    So, is there a solution or should I just start looking for alternatives? If the latter, what are the suggestions?

  • Nice, thank you, are they the Bluemels?

  • I think sks article # 10435 or # 11068 were what I had

  • Checked the stay mounts are tight? And also where it joins frame on brake bridge and bottom of seatpost?

    Alternatives, I really rate the PDW full metal fenders. They're my favs now over VO or GB etc.

  • Lovely, thanks again

  • Check on both counts. I also crimped the bridge down a bit tighter so eliminate rattle there as much as possible.

    Cheers. I've spied the PDW ones and like the look of them.

  • I've fitted some PDW 45s to a Trek Chekpoint for winter and when fitting the front the L bracket is too short to reach the point at which the screw can be inserted for the guards.

    Has anyone else come across this and found a better/taller L bracket to do the job?

  • How much are we talking? You can Dremel out a bit to make it 'taller' if a few mm?

  • @slippers @withered_preacher, thanks. That, plus needing a few other odds and sods from sjs has made my mind up to go for the GBs over the SKS that have been knocking about the garage.

  • Maybe I’m getting old, but I’m looking at mudguards for this winter. Any suggestions for something that won’t look awful on this. Big tyres are off, 28s on now.

  • Maybe I’m getting smart, but I’m looking at mudguards for this winter

    28mm = fat, lol

  • Nah, I’m saying that 28mm is the newish 23mm.
    32mm is my sweet spot for road, and that’s considered rail thin these days.

  • PDW make a longer one. But looks like I might have got the last one from Condor, sorry!

  • Just installed some PDW Ponchos - wider ones but I have a set of narrow (wide road tyres) ones yet to be fitted too. They are good - no rattles at all yet! Not as great as the metal PDWs (bit more flex, less elegant rear stays) but they are less than half the price. The narrow ones have a cutout section where they fit under the fork.

  • Thanks for the tip will try and find it somewhere

  • PDW 45mm guards on Strael 3.0 with 32mm tyres, the leather flaps are nice. I bought the correct rear hanger for it but LBS decided not to use it as clearance is so tight under brake bridge that it would have scratched up the frame.

    @tjmw - FYI.
