  • Nice. They look much racier with black tyres. I’ve bought an alternate set for mine, but so far I haven’t used them.Yet…

  • schwalbes or contis? not too many tyre options alas. bell on mine has gone dull, rivet seems to have come loose. Prev owner stood the bike upside down on tarmac !!

  • my other, the "guvnot" -:

today it has white contis, k-shifter, north roads, 110 stem, brown saddle and grips. dont like the tyres so no pics until i change em back to black schwalbes. also i'm on the lookout for a chaincase or chainguard..

  • None of your posh brands here, they are Teckno, no me neither. The chap I got them from always used them on his roadster and said they were good and at £2.50!!! each I thought I’d give them a try.

  • Am I alone in liking the white/cream/beige tyre look?

See the guy that lives near me and rides a Guvnor again the other day when I was out on the motorbike. Then saw him again like 4 or 5 hours later when I was out on my bicycle, seemed like he’d been out in the lanes that whole time which I thought was pretty impressive.

  • They have disc and rims brakes.

  • I also think the cream is boss, but black tyres look different. But only in Guv’nor circles ;)

  • Yeah, in the range, but they aren't the defacto choice for them like they are with most brands.

  • Bought a Roadster Sovereign today but it's too small.

Was being sold as a 22.5"but I'm pretty sure it's actually the 20.5. Hard to be certain though as Pashley aren't exactly forthcoming with geometry charts.

The seat was slammed when I went to see it and I didn't bother test riding it as it was pissing with rain.

I'm going to give it a tidy up, make it a bit sort of Guv'nor-ish and try and punt it on.

Bars flipped over, rack and skirt guards removed.

Rear hub needs adjusted/serviced, the dynamo wire had been pulled out the fork and zip tied to the leg so I’ve rectified that. Needs a bulb in the lamp and the cables shortening.

Shame it’s too small, would have been a nice wee project.

  • My wife has a Princess which 7 years ago we pulled, abandoned, out of her old Hackney flat's bike storage before the freeholders could throw it in the back of a van and sell it. It needed a service and a new pump as the old one was rusted, and I bought her a new basket as the old one was bashed up. The skirt guards were present but had rotted to bits. Didn't get new ones.

Now it lives with us in France, alongside my Raleigh Superbe. I always loved a trad roadster. They were my first bike lust before fixed gears entered my consciousness.

  • Yes that’s a 20.5 = small. There’s a worldwide conspiracy to always misrepresent the size of pashley bikes. It’s amazing how powerfully confusing it is to have a slightly higher bottom bracket. If it’s a 5 speed be careful of adjustments, don’t touch it if it’s not broken!

  • It is indeed a 5 speed.

I’m not convinced I was getting 5 different gears at first though, send a bit better after having the cable disconnected and put back together with a bit of adjustment.

  • ah and much more sensitive to adjustment, and therefore bad cables and shifting wheel alignment (axle nuts)

I have a 5 (rotary actuating so no toggle chain like yours has) and it’s not perfect since I tinkered with it.

In other news, new mudguards arrived… damaged beyond repair :-( having only bad luck recently with mail orders.

  • Here are the Pashley and Superbe on a picnic yesterday.

  • Nice! More woe here, mudguard bolts came out of the frame but won’t go back in… seems like grit in the threads maybe from blasting before painting. Will have to chase the threads and try new bolts - got some ordered, but inexplicably delayed! rsp race guards straightened out most of the transit damage. Mounting adapters have 6mm holes for going over the wheel axles which isn’t right at all. And leather mudflaps I bought are comically small. Just a litany of nonsense!!

  • Apparently: Brazing sand and paint, and those threads always need chasing out on this bike. M5x0.8 tap.

  • I just realised I never posted in here about what happened with the bike that was to po small for me.

I took it to the velodrome to work on (shortening the cables, tightening the rear cones etc) and a punter there saw it and offered me what I paid for it so it went home with him.

I saw the one pictured on here on eBay, it was badly described and has nothing about the size so I thought it’d be fun just for another flip but and then I forgot about it and it sold for an absolute steal. I. Was. Raging.

But then I was looking again this week and saw it again, and I this time got it for even less than it sold for last time!

Collection was from the seaside and it was a bit wild there today but had to take it for a spin along the front and grab an ice cream!

Oh and it’s the next size up so a much better fit. I could probably stand to go to the 24” double top tube frame but I can definitely ride this one.

  • Lovely condition! A colleague of mine has acquired a size large recently so eventually I’ll catch a chance to sit on it and see how it is for size. He’s been waiting for a wide handlebar to arrive but the courier seems to have lost the package lol

  • Well done M.V. Looks very characterful and who doesn't enjoy seeing quality stuff being used and ridden? You have got lucky with this one.
One of those rare occasions when all the stars align.
Keep posting, I always enjoy your contributions.

  • Picked up a rod brake Princess off gumtree for £35 recently. Seems like good fun, though Mrs upsidedown (the intended recipient) doesn't seem too bothered by it.

  • Ooh that's nice. A proper one with cotter pins and a metal chaincase.

The plastic chaincase on my wife's Pashley rubs and rattles along the chain. Anyone successfully fixed this? Unfortunately it only seems to happen when actually being ridden, not on the stand.

  • I remember them doing that on our test rides during pre-delivery checks, the fix was basically grab the guard and shake the bike. Go for a ride and repeat. Normally only took a couple of goes.

  • Yeah the plastic guard is attach to a thin metal support, simply a case of either bending it left or right, or tighten the chain

  • Very practical for winter these bikes too
