  • Funny you should mention that, as I feel the same way. I fitted a set of DT RR440 asymmetric that I built 5 years ago, and the 7800 brakes (due to colour clash), braking is excellent as one would expect. I always liked the 7800 wheels but with 16 and 20 spokes I thought they lacked stiffness for my weight and they look similar.

I changed back to the 7800 mech, fitted narrow-wide pulleys 10T and 12T and an 11 speed chain to take out the slack. The 10T and 12T combination allows the cage to wind up all the way without fouling on small-small and enables the use of a really long chain. An 11-32 cassette can shift with small or large chainwheels without binding. There's only 14T between the old style chainrings. I had to modify the plate for the spring which is around the mounting screw to tighten the tension so the B screw is in normal range. I re drilled the hole 90 degrees further for more tension. But it shifts flawlessly now.

Overall I prefer the new setup, it is more competent all round and has a nice gear range for 53/39.
