It'll be some sort of fuckery, for sure.
A bit of googling suggests that its a combo of Asus mobo, nvidia card, and samsung g9, all passing the buck on what is causing the problem.
Not that I can update the monitor firmware at all - it's resolutely refusing all attempts so far.
