I now don't have mains gas and have a completely crap electric shower and not really sure what to do about it!

Get a modern unvented hot water tank if your mains pressure /flow is decent, if not get one of the power tanks, lots and lots of hot water at good pressure + flow. Cheapo electric showers are reasonable for a lot of misery in the UK.

My neighbour has a fucking huge one off his wood boiler. Will stay hot for 5 days!

We don't have gas, just an immersion tank now. Fitting a big cylinder is on my list.
