• Can't decide on what 13amp wall sockets to buy but need to have something in the next few days for a new partition wall. Am i right in thinking as long as i install the correct depth back box then most aftermarket sockets will work or do screwless facias require matching back boxes? TBH not opposed to visible screwfixing but would like something reasonably priced, good quality, preferably metal, curved edges and slightly raised.

Recommendations would be appreciated, struggling with all the rose gold, non-branded, expensive tat the ID shops stock.

  • I don't know generally but my screwless ones just use a standard back box. The main part of the socket attaches as normal and then a thin faceplate just clips over it.

Edit: I have these which might actually meet your criteria

  • We’ve got these, with some USB sockets for key areas

They’re plastic-faced but not plasticy looking, very slim profile and as mentioned above the faceplate clips on to what’s behind. Personally, I’ve found 1-2 sockets tend to part pull away from the hidden fixing panel when removing plugs, and I think if/when we do it again I’d try to find a white finish metal face plate with 2 minimal screws to best avoid the above and give an even slimmer buildup from the wall finish.

We’ve got matching switches as well using Varilight’s PowerGrid faceplates – was a minefield trying to figure all of that out!
