I recently bought at set of MKS Allways and they are really nice pedals with sealed bearings and the pins are not sharp.
I have been running MKS Lambda for a very long time as well, which are very nice pedals as well. They come with reflectors which is nice (and required by law here in Denmark)
Both can be had at either SJS Cycles or Freshtripe.

What is the flat pedal equivalent to the shimano m520?
Other half needs something flat for city/touring & bit of gravel, no shin piercing pins, short/rounded pins maybe OK. Happy to spend a little for reliable/longevity.
XLC seem to offer some well liked models?!
